Gnome with wayland is primo! I have not really had any issues with it. My main machine is a Thinkpad and the mouse gestures in wayland work great. I have built my work flow around the mouse gestures. It is how I worked on my macbook back in the day.
I can't do a DE that does not have robust mouse gestures as I have not taken the time to be proficient in tiling managers via keyboard.
