Technology is growing fast and making our lives better every year. But there’s something to worry about: the easier life gets with technology, the more likely it is that people could lose their jobs to machines (robots) soon.

Why do I think this?

Let me tell you what happened to me today. There was a power outage, so I couldn’t keep working on my tasks. I started scrolling through TikTok on my phone just to get myself engaged and saw a video showing drones delivering orders in China 🇨🇳. It made me stop and think, what about the people who depend on delivery jobs to make a living? If companies start using drones and AI to deliver things, those workers could lose their jobs to machines.

This made me wonder about the future of work. AI is changing many industries by taking over routine or heavy-data tasks, while people will need to focus more on creative and people-centered work. As AI keeps growing, learning new skills and working with these technologies will be important for many jobs.

☺️ There’s a little coffee shop where two people walk up to the counter.

“Five coffees, please. Two for us, and three hanging.”

They pay, take their two coffees, and leave.

Curious, I ask the barista, “What’s a hanging coffee?”

“Just wait, and you’ll see,” they respond with a smile.

A little while later, two girls come in. They each order a coffee, pay, and go on their way. Then, three women order seven coffees: three for themselves and four hanging.

My curiosity deepens. What’s with all these “hanging” coffees?

Then, a man in worn clothes, who looks like he’s fallen on hard times, approaches the counter and asks, “Do you have a hanging coffee?”

“Yes, we do, sir,” the barista replies, handing him a hot cup of coffee.

I finally understood. People are paying in advance for coffees that will be served to anyone who can’t afford one.

This heartwarming tradition began in Naples, but it’s now spreading to cities and towns across the world. In some places, it’s not just hanging coffees—you can leave sandwiches or even a full meal for someone in need.

Imagine if we all embraced this simple act of kindness in our own communities. A small gesture like this could make a world of difference to someone’s day, or even their life.

Farmers market today. Only a couple left before we start scrambling to get more sales. It is amazing how many repeat customers we get during market season who quit buying once the season is over even though we have an online store and offer free delivery in the county. If you found a product you really enjoyed, wouldn't you rather purchase it online instead of going without for 6 months? I need to take a class in consumer psychology.

I live in a pretty small town in Washington and don't expect to see anyone around here. I'm hesitant to pay the entry fee needed to find out.
