When you start getting proficient with Linux you quickly deduce that there is very little difference between all of the Unix derived platforms, a decent user can switch between BSD, MacOS and Linux or whatever flavor of Unix you encounter without much difficulty. The reason people do "monoculture" is because its often times not worth the squeeze to learn BSD's init system and learning how stuff is packaged just to run a webserver when you're already familiar with systemd and Debian's package manager.
