Skimming reddit pubtips, now it’s really busy, gives a bit of feel for what jumps out from the query pile. There’s defs an art to pitching well
Because if they’ve done art at school they are rarely taught the fundamentals beyond very basic colour theory. I tell them it’s like learning a language or music, get atelier lessons and practice, or books and study them, absolutely anyone can do representational art if that’s what they want to spend time on!
And Mr Ridiculous here finally has an offer to attend grade 2 at dog school.
Yay! Today I was offered my first tiny baby research grant to work on someone’s data for a paper. One of many steps to pivot from clinical practice to demography, but in the right direction. (And it’s an interesting project!)
It’s another tool, and I hope it will drive writers to be more creative and push conventional plot structures. I think readers will learn to tell what reads as AI generated, even if it’s just a gut feeling, they’ll feel a piece of AI generated work is unsatisfying, much like now how we feel about a book printed with clip art and stock photos vs a set of cohesive illustrations commissioned for the work.
Corporate owned IPs such as Marvel and Stars Wars films are soulless perhaps for different reasons than AI but maybe the resulting works end-up with the same blandness through different processes. Creative collectives working together can still make amazing things, and AI could be part of those teams.
I’ve used ProWritingAid forever for grammar checking. It’s saying it’s AI powered now. I’ve learned a lot using it and it picks up my typos. I’ve used bing search for research and it’s fun, but I have better resources. The internet lost a lot of research potential when ad-driven algorithms and password protected social networks took over the mainstream internet and I don’t know if AI will be able to get us back to late 2000s and 2010s search potential or if it will make it even harder to find genuine human opinions and experience.
I’m not sure if it’s telling me the right answers, but studying math homework with the Bing AI sure is fun. Tonight my partner said ‘it does images you know’. I didn’t!
Anime icon, must be a troll.
But I’m keen to find out how the kiddo goes with coding camp, so have a follow
Weekly #writing #wip update - 2062 net words added to the current manuscript, but I also deleted a bunch of stuff, which felt good.
Minor improvement: Trying not to type ‘thing’ in the draft. No something, anything, everything and all the things. I should add a teeny improvement like this every week. Also, reading a chapter out of one of the Donald Mass books before I start a session and trying to apply whatever he says to the current scene.
Having that week off over Easter made it hard to get back to it!
One of our writing group members posted me out one off those fancy thermo glass mugs. So excited for mulled-wine fueled critique sessions for the next little while! (Sorry, diet). Love my city in the winter time, it’s too hot the rest of the year.
Finally bought Wolf Hall, anticipating it’s as amazing as everyone says it is.
Hope this week brings you good coffee and inspiration
Worth looking overseas for a new role? Australia seems to get a lot of refugee doctors from the UK NHS, but I don’t know if I’ve ever met any from the US.
One last sunset walk down the beach for the doggies, then farewell beautiful Gold Coast. It’s been a lovely Easter weekend.
Took last week off #writing #wip and #keto due to Easter and probability paper. We’re all fat and exhausted

So much chicken! She must be over the moon
