Talking Bitcoin to my nieces & nephews

I’m a Bitcoin uncle with young adult nieces and nephews starting to make their way in the world .. here’s my simple start of introducing Bitcoin to them. Opening the door to owning their own home has been a powerful point

My key messages:

- Financial security takes time

- Bitcoin is for savings

- Think in 4y terms or more

- Bitcoin can secure your own home

Australian housing data from bitcoinbushbash.info/houseprices

Bitcoin price charts from nostr:npub1umh9k3yuygx7l6nrwwu20c28e27k0s4ak5qk3p4lvzt2836rtfsse626me

1. The ladder of financial security

- where are you?

- where do you want to get to?

- what’s your next step?

2. Bitcoin is volatile

- what do you see?

- often lols about 3G,1R and memes 😃

3. Bitcoin is not volatile

- now what do you see?

- Always up on a 4y timeframe

- now look at the left hand side .. WTF?!

4. To own your own home, save in bitcoin

- big emotional impact here

- bitcoin goes up faster than housing

- saving in bitcoin makes ownership possible

I like it. Aussies have feel v emotional about home ownership. There's nothing about medium of exchange or the history of money - assuming that's intentional?

If the answer is both, which should I read first? (Yes Im trying to sharpen up for Thanksgiving)

As part of your Thanksgiving BJJ (Bitcoin jiujitsu) have you considered the adoption barriers your family may have? Thinking about the barriers for each individual will help in your pre-meal prep. I've been working on my own list if it's helpful? And it could be one or multiple.

Cost: The initial investment or recurring costs.

Complexity: New tech. difficult to understand, and use, leading to reluctance.

Compatibility: Incompatibility with existing systems.

Limited benefits: Perceived benefits do not outweigh the costs.

Resistance to change: Change can be uncomfortable.

Lack of training or support: Insufficient knowledge, skills or key support.

Security and privacy concerns: Fears around data security and privacy.

Inadequate infrastructure: Inadequate internet connectivity or infrastructure.

Limited awareness: Lack of awareness or understanding about the benefits.

NOW: nostr:npub1dg6es53r3hys9tk3n7aldgz4lx4ly8qu4zg468zwyl6smuhjjrvsnhsguz at Adopting Bitcoin conference says state approved stablecoins can be used in lieu of CBDCs to implement the same systems of control 👀

nostr:nprofile1qqsy86rlt3pvtvfuryalrehjjaqv4g2recqj9zhyh49svf2gx3vqe2sppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0fjdkvm has been ringing this bell for a while. Statists are gonna state.

Thanks. I hadn't considered network effects directly. The inertia NE create for incumbents can be considerable. This did get me thinking about the importance of compounding. I'd imagine its rarely one thing alone that overcomes switching costs e.g. building awareness, but I could be wrong.

Thanks. I think I see simplification as a output of tech adoption, less of a barrier to taking the action in the first place. What about examples of technology that add complexity yet add value, like smart phones? Help me understand.

I've been looking at typical barriers to tech. adoption. What am I missing?

- Cost: The initial investment or recurring costs.

- Complexity: New tech. difficult to understand, and use, leading to reluctance.

- Limited benefits: Perceived benefits do not outweigh the costs.

- Resistance to change: Change can be uncomfortable.

- Limited awareness: Lack of awareness or understanding about the benefits.
