“For who could keep his hands off Libya, or Carthage, when that city got within his reach, a city which Agathocles, slipping stealthily out of Syracuse and crossing the sea with a few ships, narrowly missed taking?” Plutarch

THE 12 TABLES

The Twelve Tables were a set of laws inscribed on 12 bronze tablets created in ancient Rome in 451 and 450 BCE. This significant milestone in the development of Roman law provided a foundation for future legal systems.

Publicly displayed in the Roman Forum, these laws were accessible to all citizens. They encompassed a wide range of legal topics, including family law, property law, contract law, criminal law, and procedural law.

By codifying the laws and making them public, the Twelve Tables helped to reduce the power of the patrician class and provided greater legal protection for the plebeian class. They also served as a basis for the development of Roman civil law, which later influenced legal systems across Europe and beyond.

GM retards. It’s a great day.

THE 4TH LEGION

The Fourth Legion wasn't just one legion; it was a title given to a few different Roman military units over the centuries. the three main ones:

1. The Fourth Macedonian: This legion was a veteran force, forged under Julius Caesar himself. From the wilds of Gaul to the civil wars of Rome, they saw it all. But time marches on, and even legendary legions fade. By 70 AD, their story had ended.

2. The Fourth Flavian Felix: Born from the ashes of the Macedonian, this legion was a product of the Flavian dynasty. They spent centuries guarding the Danube frontier, a constant reminder of Rome's power to the barbarian hordes.

3. The Fourth Scythian: This legion was a bit of a wild card, raised by Mark Antony for his Parthian campaign. They saw action in the East, weathering the storms of civil war and the ever-shifting sands of the Roman frontier.

Each of these Fourth Legions, in their own way, played a crucial role in shaping the Roman Empire. They were more than just units; they were symbols of Rome's military might, its enduring legacy, and its relentless drive to conquer.
