Writing the Great American Bitcoin Novel ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿงกโœ๏ธ

Nice! I've been debating getting into those omoplata is my favorite submission and I've just started playing more rubber guard so it seems like a match made in heaven

Appreciate you looking out โœŠ๏ธ

I had a hard lifting session so I really upped the intake today. I don't eat like for 5 hours before bed usually so it's not normally that disruptive ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Why not all of the above!

Triangles are wrestler kryptonite ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜Ž

For sure, at some point it equalizes a bit. At this point for me I can hang with them pretty well from standing, but I can't out wrestle them directly.

I end up doing a lot of snapdowns, sacrifice throws, or counter attacking and becoming the aggressor as soon as we hit the ground in my guard.

Couldn't agree more, I live in the Midwest USA where college wrestling is big, I can't tell you how many times a wrestler has swung by our gym and I've gotten the opportunity to smesh ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm still curious why you think it's dumb? You are right that clickbait isn't going to stop Nostr's adoption, but I do think it would make this a less enjoyable place to spend my time. And therefore not "successful" in my eyes.

Maybe we just have a different version of success here or I communicated that poorly.

๐Ÿ’ฏ I can't even log into Twitter anymore without being berated with fear mongering. I've really enjoyed it so far, and the original reason for this post is because I want to know what actions we can take to keep it as positive as it has been so far.

Not a problem in the sense that it's fixable. I think that as long as there is incentive humans will do, and fall for, the terrible headlines.

What I'm optimistic about here is that through the existence of relays we might be able to each tailor our communities in a way that removes a lot of this BS, which is why I've moved here from Twitter.

Perhaps over time these individual actions could cause less people to act this way? Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic, I just really like this space so far and want to see it succeed.

Right now people want to be on the same relays as people like Jack and Will, essentially making those relays similar to the Twitter 2.0 like you said.

I currently don't see any reason why that won't keep happening to any relay they subscribe to, regardless how often they change it up.

That's a really good point on the fighting for attention.

One of the reasons I wanted to put this out there is because I think Nostr could potentially reduce this issue with its relay infrastructure.

For example, I suspect certain relays will become much more full of fear mongering, and I can't potentially follow more positive ones. The protocol could never (and should never) eliminate those posts, but at least I could find smaller subsets of users on relays who are willing to engage with me in more of a positive manner.

I'm skeptical of the altcoin Nostr for a lot of the obvious shitcoinery reasons, but also because of the network effects that already exist here.

Kind of like bitcoin, there is only one first use case of this protocol, if others want to interact here the vast majority of us are all bitcoiners.

Do you think this is a stupid take or that it won't happen?

Do you think this is a completely unsolvable problem?

I'd like to think as a new form of social media arises we could at the very least mitigate some of these problems.

I'm partial to humanity ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What am I wrong about? If this is a stupid take I'd love to learn why? Is there anything about Nostr that makes this NOT a huge problem.

I'm truly looking to learn here, feel free to rip me apart ๐Ÿ™‚

There is a simple reason why Nostr will fail.

The above sentence illustrates an unfortunate reality of how humans interact with social media, some part of us is attracted to shocking and combative headlines. It is the thing that has caused so many of us to flee from toxic platforms to this brilliant purple place, but it's also the hook that caused you to read these words.

This desire exists inside all of us, but we sit here with an incredible opportunity to create a new form of unsensorable human interaction. There are many brilliant developers building tools atop this protocol. But what about the culture?

I love this place so far, and I apologize, I wrote the headline simply to prove a point. But each and every social media platform has fell pray to this trap. I think it is an important thing for this community to reason with early on. I personally have tried to be as positive as possible in my interactions here, welcoming others, being helpful and encouraging. What other things can we do to keep this place as wonderful as it has been so far?

I've been wondering what we could do to ensure that this place doesn't have the same fate. Currently I don't see any reason the fear mongering wouldn't work here given a long time horizon.

Maybe different clients and relays continue to have more positive sub communities?
