That is the problem, you can't do spam fight without censoring, therefore, letting the users to do the censoring themselves on what they consume is the only logical path if you want to build under the ethos of censorship free...
In Amethyst, you can block people and hastags, that should be enough for now, you won't see that content/user on your Amethyst front end. At least it is your choice, not the one of a relayer reading your messages and the ones of the people that replays to you (automated or not, irrelevant and a no-no implementation) to determine if it should be censor or not. Honestly, more of the same BS fiat social network crap but managed by a differences crowd... Yes awesome additional features related to Bitcoin, LN, ecash, etc, but if we are going this path, let's do X2.0 ... It looks like that is what we are trying to build, or with 0XChat a Telegram 2.0 (my favorite app but still, same core issue)
Avoiding the large relays and the paid relays that censor and the new even worst trend pedaled by the master devs of censorship the WOT relays... is the way to go, and by doing so your experience will be slower but at least less censored, avoiding Primal and Damus is a must, so far Amethyst is decent, hopefully Victor will be more inclined to respect the ethos of #Nostr
Have you seen any violence or political incorrect post or even pornographic content in your posts or the feeds lately , specially in Primal? In the replays in the "influencers" feeds, which are honey pots for ads and pedaling ideas, propaganda or simply onlyfans soft porn?
That content may be ugly and you may not want to see it, others welcome it, I block it and thus little by little curate what I watch, yet, it will show again since there will be those that try to profit from it and will automate the advertising of their narrative, ideology or product, that is unavoidable unless you ...wait for it... Censor content, which is where we are, at the point that I spent more time in X than here... The irony...
A newb will not know that, the vast majority will use Primal or Damus and experience a fairly censored and curated content...
If the path of #Nostr is to be X, so be it, but broken promises a failed ethos from the core is not a good start

Yes, a private DNS is useful in some circumstances, but bear in mind, it is another vector of data sharing, you need to trust that DNS service, they have your IP (one more party) and the log of the sites you are visiting, after all, that is their function, to resolve the sites addresses. Proton VPN, Mullvad and IVPN all have their own secure DNS which filters ads and malware, by using those VPNs with their default DNS setting you have more cyber sec, removing one vector of data sharing

If you are connected to a VPN service and ANY of the servers listed above are not provided by the VPN service then you have a DNS leak and are choosing to trust the owners of the above servers with your private data.
Mulvad is excellent, so it is IVPN, although, TOR as VPN with Orbot works excellent and IMO is better for privacy.

Problem is, going that way you end up in censor land, and therefore unappealing and hated.
If you use paid relays, little to no use, it become a tiny Eco chamber.
Leaving it open to everything is the way, using clients that filter the content to hastags you follow and people you follow should suffice. And for those that love to pay for services, paid relays censoring everything they hate to read, their money, their choice , for everyone else, freedom!

Although, history repeats and rhymes... and apparently does it often... therefore...
Bitcoin is becoming a good example, most development around bitcoin is about monetization, utility, but not security, nor making it censorship resistance.
Being in the know since 2010, not using it to transact since it is not built with sufficient privacy by default to achieve that, devs around fighting each other and not inspiring trust doesn't help neither.
Sometimes I wonder WTF Satoshi was thinking making such a wonderful mathematical marvel with no privacy to transact ...
As a store of value is the kind of the land, unbeaten, as a currency to transact, to pay for good and services, nah, pass, much better privacy options out there.
