Local schools, local businesses, local churches, local nonprofits either have no website at all, or only post updates to Facebook.
Meaning Facebook is the only way to know what's going on locally in my hometown.

Unfortunately, it's the prominent way to get updates from local entities.
I guess I could tweak the notification settings to get what I need without scrolling.
I agree. I don't see much political stuff, but the ads are unbearable. I see more spam on Facebook than my email spam folder. I made a post of what my experience was not too long ago. Went something like this.
