I’ve always really respected the early-20th Century author Rene Guenon, who wrote very challenging and very intelligent works on what I’d term “Alt-Spirituality” in the sense that Alt-History is gaining acceptance. But regardless…

One of his central theories was called “The False Return”, which stated that with the entrance of any Truth into the world, there will inevitably occur over time a degradation (& justification of that degradation) of that Truth, until the people will clamor for Truth again.

And at that point they’ll be given a False Return that has the ‘feel of truthiness’ for what they want to return to, but will mislead most of them to even greater damnation.

He said this process was to winnow the seeds from the chaff, so that the Truth could emerge again.

I’ve been binging on, believe it or not, a “let’s play” pc game by a youtuber I like who goes by “Welonz”. She specializes in narrative/storyline games, and finds amazing gems I never would have wanted to play myself, and stays largely out of the way of the storytelling.

This game-stream I’m recommending - for those drawn to watch something different yet compelling - is called “Slay the Princess”.

It’s an animated storyline-style game, where every decision drives and changes the story, so it views like a story. I had no idea there was this quality of story-telling happening in indy pc-games.

I found it fascinating, and disturbing, and haunting, and tear-jerking, and it will live in my memory forever.

If I was a series producer, I’d get an option and a team to work on this asap. Fuck “Stranger Things”. This blows that away.
