Seems to me that the bigger message to be made would be to remove Damus from the app store. Leverage the current media attention to push it further and get solidarity of developers and users to stand up for themselves. It's a much worse look letting Apple dissect the app piece by piece in almost real time.

That's possible as I don't know anything about Chinese policy, however it does not seem to mix with their current state of social media monitoring or complete monitoring of their citizens.

I don't think China banned Damus because it was something they couldn't control. They banned it because nostr is new and they want time to figure out what it is and if they need to control it before it proliferates. Same reason they banned Bitcoin mining and are now easing up a bit on it.

I heard someone talking about this on a podcast, so take that as you will, but it made sense to me. China will be fine with nostr because it is totally transparent. They can monitor everyone and the anonymity isn't that great. They want people to have an outlet to complain about the state that they can monitor and adjust their policies before things get out of hand. Nostr is not a subversive threat to them.

Damus was banned in China less than 48 hours after it launched in the Apple App Store. Zaps weren't even invented yet. China banned Damus because it was something they couldn't control. This is a right if passage for freedom fighters. This means you're on the right path. This means you're changing the narrative. This means you don't fit inside their rules.

The best part of it all? Nostr keeps pushing forward like a freight train that cannot be stopped due to it's openness and decentralized nature. These types of events are showcasing Nostr's censorship resistant technology.

Monopoly power means substantial market power that is durable rather than fleeting. Market power means the ability to raise prices profitability above those that would be charged in a competitive market (i.e., 30% tax would not be charged in a competitive market).

Of course there’s other issues, but on its face Damus seems to have a valid cause of action against apple for violating anti trust laws and damaging Damus’ business.
