Everything is relative. 🧔

Great job! Bummer the livestream crapped out halfway through though… hopefully they can repost it later.

Given the datacenter capital of the world managed to nucleate near Dulles airport (IAD), it acts as a constant highly visible reminder to anyone visiting the capital. Having attended a very relevant conference this week, I heard several gov't officials commenting about the crazy growth and energy footprint of data-centers in their backyard. I wonder to what extent over-indexing of this issue is taking place with public officials chartered with regulating this space. It's easy to get all worked up about something that's in your backyard, and ignore it if it's out of sight. NIMBYism taking place at a regulatory level in real time. Or, is the opposite true? Does having something nearby give you a certain familiarity and comfort level that makes it manageable?

Went swimmingly today! Whew! Back to trending lower carb now…

Guys, they’re installing the upgraded printer. Strap in.

It has become so weird that the US Right supports Israel’s war on Palestine while the US Left supports Ukraine’s defense against Russia.

Political sides dig in. The wars become associated with culture.

There is so little voice today from those who oppose aggression. Those who support Jews but are not onboard with Israel’s actions against Palestinians. Those who support Ukrainian independence but don’t want to commit unlimited troops for border regions that literally speak Russian amid a complicated history.

More people die in Sudan and Cambodia than Israel/Palestine, but we are all focused on Israel/Palestine because it’s a conflict of cultures. Religious cultures but also western imperialism vs the global south. The focus of it all. That occupies our attention even as bigger massacres occur elsewhere that aren’t directly across these massive fault lines.

I refuse to engage in attention whoring. I support peace in most instances globally, other than total war against someone’s existence where it becomes right to fight back. People have a right to self-defense. And those who have power over others have a responsibility to hold back on using it fully.

Keep in mind that at any moment, tons of violence is occurring globally. The media directs you to a subset of it that is geographically, economically, or culturally relevant for their purposes. You ignore or are unaware of the rest, and get emotional about what is fed to you. That’s how most people act, anyway.

Just got stopped, searched, bag strewn on the airport floor on arrival to Germany.

I’m a bit shaken up that was horrid.

The Alsatian sniffer dog was adamant I had something on me.

I know I dont have any drugs so I was trying to be helpful to speed it up. But it’s pretty intimidating when they’re so abrupt and aggressive.

The policeman was a massive cunt though. Threw my stuff on the floor and was the ā€œguilty until proven innocentā€ kind of guy.

ā€œYou have drugs. I am going to find them .ā€

He made me repack my bag in front of the queue leaving the plane.

I held up the queue though and they were all scowling, naturally.

They tested my hands with some swab thing and the lady policemen had to check with the other guy and said ā€œit’s high.ā€

It can’t possibly be the case as I haven’t touched weed since maybe the summer?

Hate to judge but there weren’t a lot of brain cells between them.

But they still weren’t satisfied so i got paraded through past the gate to do a ā€œunderpants searchā€ as they were adamant I had something.

At this point i was like what are my right here, you can’t just strip search someone.

Once we went through the gate though the sniffer dog changed its mind.

It stopped butting my right thigh. Thank fuck for that.

But man. All that coz they thought I had a bit of weed?

Gahhhhh. Jesus wept what a waste of resources. I missed my train and I’m probs gonna go full radicalised.

Fuck the fucking fuckers.

welcome to germany lol

My favorite encounter with ze German customs was once when I was stopped and searched with a large suitcase inside another suitcase, both completely empty. I was returning from a trip unloading some personal items with a family member, and was moving out of the country soon (hence the empty bags). I'll never forget the look on their faces. Having nothing to inspect, the only thing they could question me about was my new-ish laptop. How dare you have a new laptop. They then began questioning me why it didn't have a german keyboard, which was highly suspicious. Eventually, they got frustrated and gave up...
