Testing an idea:

The freerider problem is a key reason why state power grows unchecked, because the ones who try to resist carry all the burden of fighting, while the benefits if they win are widely shared among the people, including those who just remained passive as the fight against those who used to be in power went on.

People understand this intuitively, something which gives most of them incentives to be freeriders and let others take care of the resistance.

I notice this all the time - as people come up to me and say:

"Rune, I'm so glad you speak out on our behalf and write books that are important for society, and I would like to support you publicly, but you know I have a job in X and a family, and blah, blah, blah."

which I really have mixed feelings about, although it's probably better than not getting any feedback at all.

However, what I'm slowly getting to, is that this situation and the incentives shift dramatically when people realize that the state has become corrupt through and through and that the economy has been turned into a pile of dung.

At that point the network effects of continuing to adapt to the state and follow the lead of the corrupt are negative and grow exponentially every day, while in contrast joining the few who are still uncorrupted at an earliest possible stage may offer exponentially positive network effects.

Meaning: If you wait long before you join the good citizens who want to resist and fight the usurpers, you lose out immensely on the positive network effects you could have enjoyed if you weren't such an effin coward.

Think of it - there are reasons why those who remain loyal to tyrants until the empire fall often find it quite challenging to make new friends, while those who resisted and fought bravely when the rebels were just a small group become heroes that parents tell stories about to their children.

If this idea is valid, it should provide sufficient reason for you to jump down from the pile of dung (because today it most definitely is a p. o. d. ), wave goodbye to any corrupt associates you have become involved with (oh, yeah, just look around you, they are everywhere and all over the place) and...

Rebel the f up.

I believe that the health of a society is partially measured by at what extent the citizens are willing to resist, opt out, protest and rebel.

On an intuitive level, it seems self evident that an authoritarian regime will not be equally strong at every inch of its dominion. Every architecture has its weak points and supportive pillars.

The brilliance of Bitcoin is that it peacefully outcompetes and obsoletes the moneyprinting pillars of society that upholds central planning.

Education and sorting out values and priorities is foundational. Most people are only willing to take risks in favor of truth once that they have crossed their inner Rubicon. Bitcoin can help people reach that point of determination.

It's not possible.

Thanks. Yes I did play Myst but only in the starting area, it was on a past girlfriend's computer at the time. For the concept I was using general StarWars Mos Eisley ideas for the architecture, just in metal and glass instead of clay/sand.

Below is an interior view of the homestead to give an idea of what the view is from the wooden deck level.

This mid-section apartment might need larger space than this, although since the main apartment would be below deck, the upper deck outlook doesn't need to be massive.

I modeled the homestead in 3D in 2021 and it has some practical design flaws since I'm not an architect and my main focus was exploring the aesthetics.

A few things lacking: I didn't spend time on working out a proper homestead-to-homestead connection system. The general idea was to connect homesteads via extendable bridges. Under the platforms it would make sense to have large airtight rounded structures (floats/pontoons) that stabilize the homestead. I have no idea what the maritime technical requirements for seasteading in the open sea would be, so take this as an amateur vision that needs overhaul.

The homestead has three floors, with the main apartment below deck. The idea is having either an enclosed internal ladder system between the floors, an enclosed elevator or both. If one level is compromised by attackers, the owner must be able to pass between the three levels securely within the enclosed ladder/elevator system.

The elevator shaft would most practically be located on the outside of the structure, albeit the drawback is that it impacts the silhouette of the homestead. Below deck it would have an exit door and a dock for maritime vessels. The homestead could also have a diving chamber below the whole structure as an additional escape route. Think James Bond. πŸ˜„

Back in 2009 I was working as a forklift operator in Norway providing my region with food. Unless it was a weekend, in which case I might have been doing the same, depending on the weekend.

I was thinking about saving in gold at that time to save myself from inflation but I didn't have the expertise to tell pure gold from 'surprise inside' and felt that it would be hard to use, requiring a certificate and all that. A few thoughts on the postmodern criticism of John Locke.

John Locke was born in Somerset, England in 1632. He lived most of his life in England, with some time abroad in exile in France and the Netherlands.

The ideas of Locke would after his death in 1704 come to have significant impact on the abolition of slavery and in contributing to the liberty ideals of the American revolution of 1776 and the Declaration of Independence.

In order to understand Locke's position on slavery it is necessary to return to his opening salvo of Two Treatises Of Government, published in 1690:

"Slavery is so vile and miserable an estate of man, and so directly opposite to the generous temper and courage of our nation, that it is hardly to be conceived that an "Englishman" much less a "gentleman" should plead for it." (Two Treatises Of Government, part 1, chapter 1.1)

There is no doubt regarding Locke's adamant stance on slavery here, unless we assume that we possess a mindreading capacity and insert words and meanings into his statements based on our own twisting of his words.

However, this book was published in 1690, at which time he would have been 58 years old, a mere 14 years before his death in 1704. It is possible that he gradually developed this firm position over the course of his life and it is not self evident that he always held these values.

One allegation against John Locke was that he owned stocks in an English trading company called The Royal African Company, that was involved in the African slave trade. Let us look closer at this involvement. I don't have access to the documents regarding his shares ownership so I have to rely on the information available, which may or may not be accurate.

Holly Brewer writes that Locke worked as a secretary to the Council of Trade and Foreign Plantations between 1672 - 1674, and that he was paid during these years in the form of stocks from the company Royal African Company.

While the original purpose of the RAC was to trade for gold in Gambia, it later became involved in slave trade. In 1675 Locke sold his shares in the RAC, after 3-4 years of share ownership.

Together with Shaftesbury, Locke wrote a tract in 1675 condemning king Charles II for absolutism and the enslavement of subjects. Locke fled to France that same year, while his co-author Shaftesbury, ended up imprisoned.

A few years later, in1679, Locke returned to England but had to escape his native soil yet again, this time together with Shaftesbury, to the Netherlands where he would work on his Two Treatises of Government. Several years would pass until he was able to return to England.

Locke's publication of his book Two Treatises in 1690 reflected his opposition to slavery and abusive power, a theory which he had developed over the years.

In the past, slavery had been a part of the concept of property rights. Locke, with his groundbreaking book Two Treatises of Government, turned this notion on its head.

The new concept of property that Locke formulated was founded on the premise that all humans are born free, without masters, and that every man owns himself and the fruits of his labor.

This was a revolutionary concept of property rights: suddenly, according to this new doctrine, slavery had been turned into a violation of property rights. You can't own a person who owns himself - this is impossible.

To respect property rights in the new Lockean sense now involved respecting every individual as a sovereign person who owns himself and his labor.

It is hard to imagine a stronger and more convincing foundation for rejecting slavery:

Those in power that may seek to establish a 1984 society in the future will always be at war with John Locke's theory of liberty, property and human rights. And to be more precise: any manifestation of a tyrannical state is a declaration of war against the citizens of such a state. No wonder that future and contemporary tyrants will be lining up to discredit John Locke.

From a bitcoin perspective, John Locke was a rehabilitated shitcoiner that sold his lousy stonks and wrote an instrumental treatise that changed the future in favor of liberty.

Here is the same 3D model without glass and with an added elevator shaft. The idea is having the main apartment below deck and a ladder or elevator in a protected shaft that can access all three levels.

I've made some concepts for seasteading in 3D a few years ago. They aren't fully practical and would need some re-design, but the gist is having floating platforms that can be anchored by the coast, forming voluntary communities that can be connected and separared at will.
