It's a standalone webcam as I use large monitors for work. It's an essential tool, unfortunately, but the usb cable is within easy reach.

I used to unplug it between uses, now I've started doing that again.

Ok - NOBODY can answer what controls the LED in your webcam, so if you're paranoid, like me, when you're not using it, unplug it.
