On the quest to live a mindful, happy, healthy, long life.

Vivek Ramaswamy about debating, receiving criticism and curiosity:

"I love the heat and I’m a curious person, so I’m always curious about what’s motivating the person on the other side. That curiosity I think is actually the best antidote because if you’re just trying to stay calm in the face of somebody attacking you, that’s kind of fake. But if you’re kind of curious about them, genuinely just wondering, I think most people are good people inherently. We all maybe get misguided from time to time, but what is it that’s moving that person to go in such a different direction than you?"

I really enjoyed the conversation of Lex and Vivek. It would be refreshing to have young, eloquent leaders, like Vivek, with clear convictions and purpose serve in the White House.

Ryan Holiday proposes falling in love with the moment more often:

"Dr. Michael Gervais is the world’s leading performance psychologist. He says that the remedy to the anxieties of a new project, a growing to-do list, an uncertain future, is falling in love with the present moment. As opposed to being anxious, protective, trying to control stuff, can you just be in love with showing up and experiencing this moment? Too often, we refuse the gift of the moment in front of us. We dwell on what’s long behind us, or anxiously project ourselves into an imagined future—either yearning for it or dreading it. But if you care-take each moment, you’ll experience an instant lightness–a feeling you can have all the time if only you can get out of your head."

"Everyone knows that our habits are improved and strengthened through their exercise. In order to be a good walker, you need to walk a lot; in order to be a strong runner, you need to run frequently; in order to be a perceptive reader, you ought to read as much as you can. The same is true of your soul: if you become angry, you must know that you not only perform evil, but you also create an evil habit, and you increase your potential for further evil." -- Epictetus

"When you understand the structure of your own personality, you can resolve problems that seemed intractable before." -- Stefanie Stahl

Stefanie Stahl distinguishes between die Shadow Child, Sun Child and the Inner Adult. We should get to know and befriend them all, in order to be able to grow and evolve as a human being.

The Shadow Child embodies all our flaws and negative beliefs, which usually affect us on an unconscious level.

The Sun Child represents all our positive traits and everything that we value in ourselves.

And the Inner Adult is our rational mind, which is capable of conscious decisions. Ideally we can use our Inner Adult to soothe the Shadow Child and to guide it to let go of deep seated issues.

If you find this kind of self-reflection interesting, here's Stefanie Stahl's website for more information: https://stefaniestahl.com

I'm currently reading the book "The Child in You" by Stefanie Stahl.

It's straight forward, to the point, with lots of practical exercises and tips which allow anyone to resolve his or her inner problems and childhood issues. I highly recommend it!

It'll be my Christmas present for family and friends. Anyone should know this and have the opportunity to work out deep routed issues. Whether they do the work is up to them.

Morgan Housel on the importance of #books, #reading and accumulating timeless information and #wisdom:

"Permanent information is harder to notice because it's buried in books rather than blasted in headlines. But its benefit is huge. It's not just that permanent information never expires, letting you accumulate it. It also compounds over time, leveraging off what you've already learned. Expiring information tells you what happened; permanent information tells you why something happened and is likely to happen again."

That's a fair point. I still believe that exploring space is a worthwhile endeavor for humanity, though as you point out it shouldn't come out of the pockets of taxpayers. That's why I appreciate SpaceX, which can launch and explore at a fraction of a cost, without stealing from citizens.

I recently learned about the Europa Clipper Mission, which will closely map Jupiter's moon Europa and look for signs of life within the vast ocean beneath its surface. It's such an exciting time to be alive: SpaceX's incredible launches and landings, the James Webb Space Telescope, various moon missions... I can't wait to see what "we" find. A little bit of patience is needed though, at least for the Clipper Mission. We'll only receive data from the probe by 2031.

Here is the Veritasium video, detailing the mission:

"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. Even if one were to walk for one's health and it were constantly one station ahead—I would still say: Walk!

Besides, it is also apparent that in walking one constantly gets as close to well-being as possible, even if one does not quite reach it—but by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Health and salvation can be found only in motion... if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right." -- Soren Kierkegaard

I've been listening to Alan Watts on the Waking Up App before falling asleep. There are so many nuggets of #wisdom in his talks. Here's one:

"By replacing fear of the unknown with curiosity we open ourselves up to an infinite stream of possibility. We can let fear rule our lives or we can become childlike with curiosity, pushing our boundaries, leaping out of our comfort zones, and accepting what life puts before us."

Check out Optimus at work! Incredible how advanced it already is. I can't wait to have one assist me with my daily chores. How about you? Would you welcome a robot into your life?
