To make it indistinguishable we’d need a metadata-leak-resistant protocol for encrypted messaging that breaks them into indistinguishable streams of messages of a fixed size. Maybe the HRF bounty #3 for encrypted chats should take this in mind. If there were encrypted application protocol bits in such a protocol it might be possible to do a arbitrary secure transport protocols inside rather than being for pure chat.

I’m not sure how to make it backwards compatible with v1 http senders and indistinguishable yet, since an adapter would be able to distinguish pj as those requests over http. But there might be a way if the adapter has another general purpose function 🤔

if so, what is the benefit of using nostr? that someone already runs servers for free and we presume they’ll run our new nip + v1 adapter for free too?

definitely wound not need a static payment code. However, a cryptographic handshake could initiate keys with strong forward secrecy (unlike the first message of 0-rtt) for subsequent and could be used as an identifier for a persistent contact. Might be overkill & out of scope.

seems like you could use nip4 for encryption but no forward secrecy for either sender/receiver key compromise is a bit tenuous compared to the crypto available

the transport agnostic idea is worth a deep look. It may be possible to use an http v1/webtransport/websockets adapter on a relay to support either/both/all

Serverless Payjoin BIP draft has been submitted

A few questions to reach consensus on:

- WebTransport or Nostr or WebSockets or ?

- Is the IK cryptosystem ideal?

- Take this opportunity to ship long lived contacts?

- How should pubkeys be encoded?

If you think it's Nostr's time to shine or you want to see BIP 47 (or some alternate?) contact system baked in, now's the time to speak up so we have a unified front moving forward.

All-in tiptoes around bitcoin every episode that they bring up fiscal austerity (all of them). Now they have the talking points to imagine a world thanks to the Bent. Friedberg is the man to convince. nostr:note18u6z6xks7scentdw3522cxzls9egpqd7lndz3mpewx6klf4tqmhqxds0gn

though I do agree any adopted standard needs at a minimum forward & future secrecy and should not re-use keys. Very easy to roll something dangerous out here by rushing 😬

Bitcoin Bounty Challenge Update

HRF has determined that Iris secret chats by nostr:npub1g53mukxnjkcmr94fhryzkqutdz2ukq4ks0gvy5af25rgmwsl4ngq43drvk partially

qualifies for bounty #3 (e2e encrypted nostr group chats) and will

receive 1 BTC of the reward 👏

The remaining 1 BTC is open to any popular nostr client that can

create e2e encrypted nostr group chats with an interoperable standard

via a merged NIP

Martti's submission with Iris did not qualify for the full bounty as

only Iris users can initiate a group chat

We are excited by all of the interest from around the world in this

bounty program and expect to make more announcements about claimed

bounties soon 😉
