nostr:npub1uvfvlddmhuh4hu4teupjs2lkdn8x3htrrw7jlwzuv0ushumkwnhqxjteda I've seen it around and I have no major complaints about its interface. With how much everyone shits on pleroma I'm starting to wonder why it isn't being adopted

Honest question: is there a reason NOT to use misskey? I never hear anybody complaining about it.

Just saw a girl with a bad case of vitiligo wearing nothing but a sports bra on top. Rather unusual sight.

due to the trannifying of all the other coffee shops open on Sunday I've tried to go to Starbucks again to work in my laptop but ALL of the comfy ones closed. They used to take such pride in the lighting of their interiors and now they feel like sitting inside a McDonalds in Washington DC. The floor is like a scuffed up white tile, the chairs are cheap hard garbage and it feels like you're going to get robbed at any moment (no it's not black people's fault this time)

nostr:npub1806tnus5yhy3ltgqpp6ervpqp0n9ln59kt228e7ejt9k3etdr5qs7hdzue my pet theory is that google fired all of their competent search engineers and they had to go start their own companies because most of the ones that have been popping up at least seem to try to emulate old google and I have to imagine that skillset didn't come out of nowhere

nostr:npub1806tnus5yhy3ltgqpp6ervpqp0n9ln59kt228e7ejt9k3etdr5qs7hdzue kagi has helped a decent bit but there's only so much magic it can pull to sift through the garbage.

I genuinely don't know what to do. I've resorted to just allocating days to reading manuals in hopes that it might answer future questions.

I remember when I was in school Google was SO GOOD that it was a genuine question of why we needed to learn many of the topics that we were forced to rote memorize. Either the school system was slow to adopt this line of thinking or they knew that good search just wasn't going to last forever, but either way, thank god.

nostr:npub1llkxmtwyj46seyy6aysl74e4jpqh04dllhv4vkj4j4wzcqyqq98queuxm4 I don't get that mentality though. Why would you even try to start a search engine unless you knew that google was floundering and there was a market to be filled

nostr:npub1llkxmtwyj46seyy6aysl74e4jpqh04dllhv4vkj4j4wzcqyqq98queuxm4 when it comes to work related results I honest to god do not care at all about being tracked. I just want to get answers without being redirected to buzzfeed articles.

nostr:npub1llkxmtwyj46seyy6aysl74e4jpqh04dllhv4vkj4j4wzcqyqq98queuxm4 most search engines seem to be stuck in the past and compare their results to google search as the "gold standard" when they haven't been usable in 5 years. Brave was great until they trained their model on google results.

nostr:npub1llkxmtwyj46seyy6aysl74e4jpqh04dllhv4vkj4j4wzcqyqq98queuxm4 but that's why I also recommend kagi. They seem to significantly deviate from google on most query results. In a good way.

nostr:npub1utukarznxen0uaw39mnm0yqjxgv4xu88pv9t22f6l74axz93qc8q62mt2x dell is a horrible joke of a company but monitors seem to be the one thing they do right. Alienware ultrawides are a good line, but mine does suffer from poor darks, as do all IPS panels. It does not have even a fraction of the light bleed or distortions that I've seen with other monitors however

nostr:npub1llkxmtwyj46seyy6aysl74e4jpqh04dllhv4vkj4j4wzcqyqq98queuxm4 yeah I haven't found brave to be particularly resistant to SEO spam.

As far as paid search goes Kagi is by far the best I've come across. They also have a warning feature that tells you if the site is overflowing with ad trackers, which is a good indication that it's a spam site.

nostr:npub1m393sjt2z0qtjmvkupuy47t2cvsxsumxjx55chz0k6r0fkvszzfqd9xm0k it really feels like the days of "google is your friend" are behind us. I haven't even heard anyone say that in years.

Is anybody else getting to the point where you don't even try to look up stuff online anymore? Like you look up almost anything and you can just *feel* that its nothing but SEO spam
