AppleCare+ cover is a life-saver. (And it doesn't hurt that the nearest Apple store is 500 metres from my front door, on foot.)
After upgrading to macOS 14 I had a weird networking problem — nothing in, nothing out. The interface config looked fine, so DHCP had worked. Same on Wi-Fi and Ethernet, with and without firewall switched on.
But below the firewall button, under Filters, there was Little Snitch! Switched it off and lo, it worked.
Paging nostr:npub1psdfxfpxz2cwmmnsk60y3nqpn2tqh9n24h4hstvfkwvr6eaek9js499sr7 as he intended to upgrade, too.
nostr:npub1sl6tg309yu22tahd0nu88m7pmadpwyyl0uyr8fpva4julaelz82qsjkxct Yeah, I already had to disable Little Snitch *before* I could update my Macbook Pro. (Now updating the big iMac I do most of my work on.)

I'm really enjoying this thread and all the comments.
Aside from all the Laundry Files goodness(??) of training an LLM on the Necronomnicon , my first thought went the other way.
Take the sleazy marketing pitch, and shove it in an Accelerondo-like sentient program. Go as meta as you like. A story about an author training their own LLM on their own work to co-author with their digital ghost. But it gets bought by a sentient software corporation entity and takes on a life of its own.
nostr:npub1pdj9m9yfqfhsn2pz06rj7pmkz7fwtuawtdknvlkz94gj9grkzemsvjp8d3 This might work if you posit actual artificial intelligence. (What we've got now that's being sold as such *isn't* intelligent—it's just autocorrect on steroids—which is what makes the current hype bubble so societally dangerous.)
nostr:npub1psdfxfpxz2cwmmnsk60y3nqpn2tqh9n24h4hstvfkwvr6eaek9js499sr7 Will you be allowed to bring it back to the UK? Will there be any to bring back to the UK?

My next typewriter is going to be made of fossilized giant spider bones!

If I were CEO of Apple, that phone would have a prominent "Scorpion Stare" Icon and the camera would capture Charlies facial expression when turns it on the first time and notices that :-)

Reminder that Batman is just Elon Musk on anabolic steroids with a rubber fetish and a bad habit of beating up and crippling people so marginalized they can't hold down a regular job.

You don't have those in the UK? Norway does it twice a year, on the first (second?) Wednesday of January and June, 12:00.
nostr:npub1qtkynp3ktk3z8trzhue5jzj4pwgaj2a3nh2s7pghk9mfyua6904s4yt8dz The UK quietly retired them in the 1970s, I think, when the Soviet megatons pointed at us were so ridiculously many that >60% fatality within the first hour seemed likely across the nation.

#WritersCoffeeClub sept 9: ever abandoned a writing project that wasn’t working?
nostr:npub1zl93dtqgvm78n7gqsse3tncf3x958p9dnyxr036y3qqsy0c7gq3swg76w7: "This is a weird question because maybe the vast majority of words I’ve written are in abandoned projects. Isn’t that how everyone works?"
Not me, if I can help it! But I write for a living, so abandoned projects are wasted working hours. (Or days, or months, or (in extremis) years.) You learn not to do that fast, if you want to eat and keep a roof over your head.

"Has anyone ever tried writing a novel purely through speaking?"
Tons of folks dictate novels. Per his own story, David Webber took a header off his deck a couple of decades ago and broke both wrists with a deadline looming. One copy of Dragon Dictate later, he had a book. Then another, and another. (The style changed somewhat, and not for the better IMO, but he was still producing.)
