I should clarify: I'm genuinely excited to see people start to use PageRank in various applications, like zapstore. PageRank is simple but powerful. Many nostriches may not remember, but PageRank changed the world in 1998 with google search. It was transformative. Magic. And nostr can put some of that magic to great use.

My goal is to stimulate conversation around the algos themselves. PageRank is not the only centrality algo out there. And freedom tech != google. What precisely is it that we want to measure? Popularity is the siren song. Nostr recommendation engines need to be guided by a different purpose.

Quality and merit, not popularity.

If it wasn’t clear to you before, zaps are a great way to build your audience here.

Zap people for any reason or no reason at all. You can set your default to whatever amount you want or change it for each one.

And when you do it, you’re giving little bits of value directly to plebs instead of to Elon Musk, and you’re not getting served ads and bullshit content in your feed.

For the record, I feel like Elon is doing important work with Twitter, and I don't mind supporting him. Plus I get tons of value out of Twitter personally. But dictatorships always turn tyrannical no matter how benevolently they begin!

I was a Bitcoiner first...Uhm...Definitely more into Nostr. Though I understand that the two have a beautiful symbolic relationship and I speak at Bitcoin conferences about Nostr.

There are plenty of people here. I haven't used other socials in nearly two years. I deleted them all a year ago or so. Nostr is the only social that matters. It's the most authentic and active community of people I ever come scores on my 30 years of being on the Internet.

Perhaps using Nostr only a few times a year, essentially making it your own personal ghost town, is why you feel it's a ghost town? As with most things in life that require work, if you put time and effort into Nostr, you'll reap the benefits. If you don't put forth any effort, you'll have a bad experience.
