No worries. When looking for hosts, make sure to filter on 'date last active' to filter out all the inactive ones (there's a lot)

Try Couchsurfing, I've been using it recently and it works well. I see there's a bunch of active hosts in Santa Cruz right now. There's a small cost for membership though, I believe it's about 2 or 3 bucks per month (quickly recouped).
