I think that the proliferation of fake news, mostly starting after the 2016 election, forced society to start having to make conscious choices about what news to believe and what news to dismiss.

I believe that as of today, people have essentially decided that it's really hard to tell a coherent lie over a 2-3 hour podcast.

Hence the major role this form of media took in the 2024 election.
