Funny amnesia among some #Russia experts who, speaking of the Moscow 9 May parade, discussed possibility of an attack by #Ukraine SBU/GUR, giving as an example the recent assassinations of Russian generals. The tone of the discussion is like “well that’s not quite nice and dangerously close to terrorism”.
At the same time in July we will have 19 years since Russia has officially passed the law allowing its armed forces and special services to operate abroad to kill “terrorists and extremists”.
The first “terrorist and extremist” who was murdered under this law was British citizen Alexander Litvinenko, killed on British soil using radioactive polonium.
And then Russians went on a total killing spree - a number of Russian refugees in UK, the first use of chemical weapons in UK in which the target (Sergey Skripal) survived but Russians accidentally killed a random woman, murders in Bulgaria, Germany, blowing up ammunition depot in Czechia (where a random man was killed), not to mention hundreds of assassinations and sabotage operations in Ukraine, long before Russia started the war there.
So, while talking of nuances of SBU/GUR targeted killings inside Russia, let’s not lose Russia from sight - the elephant in the room that had been light years ahead of any other country in terms of violence, brutality and disregard for collateral damage in their operations abroad.
Russians killed British citizens in British soil with chemical weapons and polonium? Then started the largest war in Europe since WW2? Could these minor incidents serve an alternative explanation for a certain dislike of Russians?
That’s absurd. You don’t surrender to an invader to get a cheap oil for a while, because that’s not why Russia invades countries.
