I don’t understand the gripe here. I’ve said I agree that self custody is the goal, but there are barriers of entry when it comes to hosting a node when you are struggling to cover basic living expenses.
I’ve explained that there are barriers of entry for people, you are telling me to find more methods, that I’ve never used mind you, to tell people to use & at the same time tell them not to trust but verify.
Not sure what you plan to do here with this narrative as again, I’ve agreed that self custody is the goal.
Things don’t just happen automatically & I’m speaking from my personal experience as an artist in Africa that self hosts his own nodes.
Inbound liquidity alone is a very big barrier for many, and low cost is subjective when, again, people are struggling to meet their basic living expenses.

I'm not trying to argue, just explaining non-purist methods of self-hosting that are still DeMu, decentralized music, and not putting faith and trust into a platform like WL which has already denied withdrawal of earned sats to an artist from Russia.
The beauty is the protocol: RSS. It's a contract transparent for all to see, so artists don't have to trust where their value is going when they ask someone to host the feed for them. They can verify the value is going where they agreed and directed it.
That's correct. Artists receive value on WL in the form of sats but it's custodied, so 100% goes to Wavlake before it gets divvied out to the artist *minus a 10% fee. When you look at DeMu RSS feeds, you'll notice 100% of the value goes to value splits between all the musicians in the band, artists, etc. WL implemented splits but it's limited to four...and they have to have an account there.
To self-host, you just need your mp3 files, a website and a wallet or node per value split.
Artists can self-host for little to no cost thanks to the growing community. No node? Custodial wallets work fine until you build one. No website to host your files? Others can lend their site for musicians to use, like ThunderRoad.media and Hyper Audio or Phantom Power. 💜

YES! The ability to livestream concerts for zaps and boosts is revolutionary. 😍 I'm a sucker for keysend/boosts because I come from the Podcasting 2.0 realm and LOVE the value splits artists can add to their RSS feeds, but we are early and still building. There's room for everyone and Nostr + zapping is a huge value-add to what I already saw going on in the P2.0 space. 💜
YES! WL is a platform that will build and host an RSS feed for you but it custodies your fees (sats go 100% to their node then get divvied out to you), limits value splits (self-hosted you could split value to multiple wallets or nodes for every musician in the band, producer, etc however you want) and takes a 10% fee.
DeMu means you build and host your own RSS feed. If you have a website, then you've already got a spot to host! Here is a DIY RSS album feed explaining all the tags/capabilities but if you need any help, there are tons of people here who are able and willing:
