yeah MOB had a post on it before. basically the thought is that we don't want to bot to auto-approve stuff that could get us in legal troubles like promoting calls to violence and so on. so stuff with certain words should be manually reviewed/approved instead. at least, that was how i understood it.
only MOB knows i think.
he had a post couple days ago where he said it was only setup on 2 specific relays. If you are using those, and dont have 'kill' in the post, then afaik it should work. i have no clue how to check what relays people are using and guessing i would need an actual client (not website) to check that anyway
@Cyborg, we're not talking about (or to) you, shithead
> this community idea is a bit dumb
you mean how the approval stuff works? agree that it is setup a bit retardedly. i get wanting approvals to prevent bot spam/trolls but then the fact that the site offers practically NO configuration of any kind and just makes mods approve 100% of everything by hand is super lame. Gotta be a lot worse in communities that don't have people like MOB at least setting up a stop gap solutions.
But the whole site ui/ux here is kind of half-assed imo (at least if accessing thru the website). tags is more of a twitter-concept i think and i'm not really against the idea but i'd rather it work like reddit/lemmy. but even in the lemmy/reddit concepts list, i'd like to see things like sticky posts, expand/collapse on nested comments, block/hide/mute users, something to see the \# of comments per post when in the sub looking thru all posts, etc. And the navigation kind of sucks too. No bookmarkable pages for user subbed communities.. instead you have to load main page and then click a tab and then wait to load a list and scroll thru it.
anyway, i've heard amethyst or whatever has slightly better ui/ux but i don't use android apps cuz i fall into the ultra paranoid category of security fanatics (more that i dont trust android itself - i havent even looked at the app). and haven't had time to really look at desktop clients much yet. sounds like this month is going to be crazy busy for me too so i don't expect i'll find the time soon.

In that case, fuck off and stop replying to my posts and comments for at least two weeks
Favorite type of joke? I guess you could say that I really like transmisic jokes.
Especially ones that illustrate how the trans political agenda is really just taking advantage of and disrespecting normal. The trans, as well as other minorities, essentially are abusing the fear of normies who wish to be kind and not offend them and taking ridiculous stances and pushing things to extremes. I don't really hate trans individual so much but I do strongly disagree with the mindset that disagreeing with minorities or telling they are wrong is being racist, disrespectful of their feelings, or oppressing them. That is merely artificial drama they enact for the purpose of getting their way. That kind of behavior is purely manipulative and wrong and fully deserving of being the butt of a joke.
Humans are like jokes, not everyone likes the dark ones.
i saw this was the most quickly downvoted post during a lemmy shitpost session i found.
based on the expression 'the truth hurts', i think it is fair to say that troons' biggest fear is for the rest of the non-troon world to close the off the 'fear of offending them' loophole that they've been exploiting this entire time. even more than pointing out how incredibly fugly they are, calling it a mental illness, making fun of their rotten axe wounds, or trans suicide jokes.
It makes sense tho. They are mostly doing it for attention or cuz they have negative feedback loops from social circles that essentially brainwash them into thinking that they need to transition. If you close the loophole that lets these delusions exist in the first place (normal peoples' insecurities and fear of offending minorities) and actually push back against this by pointing out that it is atypical behavior then they got nothing. No feeding their delusions, no special attention, no newly recruited trans people to share the misery, etc

When people are afraid to call out a mental illness

> Guys I'm not gonna approve any post with the word kill in it.
Are you meaning that things with certain words should not be approved at all or just that they should not be auto-approved by the bot?
I can definitely relate to not wanting to promote calls to violence/etc and I can see the merit in not auto-approving anything with a small set of blacklisted words associated with calls to violence/crime ('riot', 'kill', 'execute', 'doxx', etc) and leaving those for manual review. But if you mean the former, would that not also be going somewhat against free speech? (e.g. 'i killed my firefox process', using 'killed it' instead of 'nailed it', sharing a news article mentioning a murder, etc all seem like they would be ok to me). Plus I could see people just pulling out a thesaurus or changing a letter if they want to be buttholes..
The old Doug Marcaida line also comes to mind lol

partly asking in general and partly since i wasn't sure if you want me to do whatever differently. tbh i was kinda surprised when i realized you had added me to mods list but aside from occasional approvals before you got the bot going i really haven't done jack shit.. so if it was just a temporary thing and you/kapow change your minds later, no worries on that front either. honestly, i don't even know how to do anything other than approvals lol

side note: i didn't think about it at all before but i just noticed during this that the sidebar on satellite earth references EH.com rules but now that EH.com seems to be down/going offline, would it make sense to type something out? I get error on EH.com right now but I partially stole their rules for the dankmemes sub so could copypasta/tweak those as a baseline if needed/desired.
> Otoh, video sites do a poor job at fostering conversation anyway.
yeah, i think so too.
see people doing training or news or whatever in video and always i would rather just skim and read it instead. podcasts i get somewhat cuz you can listen while driving or doing yardwork but video completely keeps you from doing other stuff unless you just ignore it but then wahts the point
> But then you go to rumble and it often goes too far in the other direction.
Fair enough. I think is that way with a lot of conservative sites tbh. things like poal/ruqqus/voat/upgoat had more conservative lean than reddit/mastodon/old twitter/lemmy byt also very strong usage of slurs and hardcore, no apologies racism. i was never offended and still think that kind of thing is fun here nd there but it does get a little old when you are look for serious discussion and you get some guy acting like 12yo wth slurs. is why i am alrady missing EH (lemmy instanec).
I dont think there is a really true neutral free speech site out there or i haven't found it if there is. i dont agree with democrats usually but dont mind discussion when you can find some of the less woke ones that can actually still remain polite after you say things like 'i voted for trump' or 'i think gender affirming care is harmful to both patients and society'. but i cant see them bothering unless we are at least cordial in return
So, in principal, if someone were to have a functional reproductive organ removed and replaced with a non-functional reproductive organ that could not be used for reproduction, then that person would not be mentally stable, right?
