I can now compress the more-speech database by saving events older than 14 days, and profiles and contacts older than 90 days. This shrank the size from 26gb to 2gb. Nice! The compression process took less than 10 minutes to compress more than 6 months worth of data. Nice again!

Good Morning Nostricites:

This is a great software podcast. Informative and very entertaining. http://podcast.oddly-influenced.dev/

And I am grateful every single day.

Good Morning Nostricons.

Yesterday I flew The Countess over to Leesburg, VA, and gave a talk to a large gathering of software developers for a large government agency.

Flying into the DC area requires special FAA training and procedures having to do with the SFRA (Special Flight Rules Area) which is a 30 nautical mile security ring around DC. Leesburg is just inside the SFRA and so involves the least amount of extra procedure to land and take off. All in all, flying in was pretty easy.

It was a 3 hour flight from Kenosha, Wisconsin, where The Countess is hangared, to Leesburg. So I woke up at 4AM, got the plane ready by 5:30, and took off, with my business associate, at 6AM CDT. We landed just after 10AM EDT and were picked up by our hosts who drove us to the auditorium where I spoke. We were back in the air again at 3:30PM EDT and landed back in Kenosha just after 6PM CDT. I was home by 7.

That was a long day, a good day, and the kind of day you can only have if you own your own airplane and fly it for business.

Today I have a class to at 10AM. It's week 11 of my 13 week Clean Code Master Class. This week is all about high level testing strategies.

Not overbooked. But I do like keeping busy. I work when I want to, which is most of the time.

Good Norning Nostrobs:

It will be a busy day today. I've got a Honeydo list to take care of. Tomorrow I fly to DC. Wednesday I teach a class. Maybe I can get some more-speech work done in the gaps. ...

Happy Easter Nostabunnies.

There were several books published about the papers submitted to the PLOP conferences back in the 90s. I editted one of them.

I thought, perhaps, you might be interested in a tweet thread I wrote a few days ago.

This is the user-window in more-speech

Had a great hour long workout doing Supernatural on the Occulus. Then pushups and situps, etc. It's great to do some good productive coding followed by some good productive sweating.

And the movie date with my lovely wife is just over an hour away. What a great day.

Fiddle, fiddle, fiddle, fiddle. But the User window works much better now. So does the websocket reconnect protocol.

It's just so cool to feel all these bits come together into a cogent whole.

Good Morning Nostrides, Today my wife and I will go see Dungeons and Dragons. That should be fun. Meanwhile I am debugging some nasty little issues with websockets.

Good Evening Notrodimos,

Today I got a lot done.

* I paid my taxes (OUCH!)

* I began planning a flight to DC. (fun!)

* I picked up Tulip from the groomers.

* I got all kinds of new features working in more-speech, including the users-window and all

kinds of fun menu options for adding users to tabs etc. This will make more-speech much

more friendly to noobs.

User window in more-speech works now. You can see all recent users and you can see all the users in your web-of-trust. You can trust and untrust users using simple buttons. Nice!

The trip to DC will take about 3 hours. That's about the same time (if not a bit less) than flying commercial with all the driving and parking and TSA and... However, by flying myself I can leave early AM on Tues and return Tues afternoon. If I fly commercial I have to stay at a hotel Monday night. urg.

The weather looks good right now, so flying the Countess is a much better option for me.

The Countess burns about 14 gallons per hour. She flies at 150nm/hour, or about 170 miles per hour. So I get ~12 miles per gallon. Avgas costs ~$5-7/gal depending on where you get it.

The flight to Leesburg (near DC) from Kenosha is 540 nm (nautical miles) so I should burn about 51g for a cost of around $300. No landing fees. No ramp fees for one night.

I hangar the plane at Kenosha. This costs a few hundred dollars per month. They take care of the plane in many different ways so it's well worth the expense. You can get hangars for significantly less if you want to manage the aircraft yourself. But I think it's worth keeping her in a nice warm hangar with people who love her. ;-)

Good Morning Nostroids,

I'm giving a talk in DC this Tuesday. I just did the research, and took the require course, to fly into the DC area. The weather looks good right now. If it holds, I'll fly over and back on the same day. Otherwise I'll fly commercial (yuk).
