Just “won” a silent auction for a Magic Johnson autograph jersey. It’ll be the second signed Magic jersey in my possession. A few years ago, my brother gave me an autographed Magic Johnson Team USA jersey.
Most people don’t remember the origin of why players have to exit a game when there’s an open wound. This started after Magic Johnson stated he had HIV. I was a kid. He was my hero. Taught me how to play basketball by watching his VHS tape. I cried.
Players were in uproar. They didn’t want to play against him. He was forced to retire. But after a few months, the fans voted Magic Johnson into the All-Star game. They let him play, he had 25pts, 9 boards and 5 assists…and a memorable 3 pointer to seal the game. He walked away as MVP.
