Seriously, people. Why are open source developers like beggars asking for donations? Like charity or communism like that 🤮. Can you put pricing on all you products like in the example below with sunflowers? Stealing (downloading without paying) will be very simple, but it will still feel like stealing. And developers will mot be communist beggars. C'mon, everybody wins. Just publish price lists. No further legal mumbo jumbo. Don't even say who must pay. Exactly like with sunflowers.

I am just thinking, if I was the Iran ruler, what would I do now? Israel killed my diplomats in a foreign country out of a blue sky just like that. So how do I save my face at home? I should revenge with something similar but I can't, because US will get involved and will smoke me like Gaddafi. Before bitcoin I had concluded the civilization does not need me for anything other than to abuse me, and was about to leave for the wilderness. But then I found bitcoin, and decided that I don't need the civilization, so they can leave for the wilderness if they want to.
I'm not sure you realize how many of the kinds of apps we're talking about here depend on an expensive backend to allow for interaction, connectivity etc. even if distributed.

In terms of Nostr related tools for me it is not much:
- Amethyst has a nice banner asking for donations to the developers of a particular version. The only problem is they do not specify a price.
- Relays should be asking for subscription payments. And some do. The only problem is that the ones that do ask for payment are paid only. To compensate the free ones, it is actually difficult to even find a way to pay them. And they never remind me to be paid.
I rarely want any service with the app that I buy. When I want it, I am happy to pay for it, too. But I don't want to pay for a fact that developer keeps tuning the app all the time. I pick a version and buy it. That's it. I will buy a new version if I want to sometime. If you offer me a discount if I "return" the old version when buying a new one - that's fine. But I don't want to enslave anybody to sit on producing updates that I do not need.
Also an idea about pricing the open source software: if you are driving in France past a sunflower field, you will often see a poster welcoming you to pick a stem and leave 2eur in a box for it. Tips appreciated, but 2 eur is specified. Why not apply the same to open source software? Plus a discount for the ones just upgrading from an older version.
That's not how it works. I pay for the things I buy once. If you want to release a new version - go ahead. I will see if I want it, and if I do, I will buy it.
In my times in the army the ones making mistakes would voluntarely choose to do push-ups as a way to grow more brain cells to help them understand the mistakes made and also the ways to avoid them in the future.
