My strategy is a bit radical but is working. They can't reach me...
Fortunately Signal Messenger exist, which is the only app I have been able to push to most family and friends, but better options like Session App or SimpleX are just out of the question for better privacy.
Session App have been doing better with their approach and communication, calling the seed words "password" and the Session ID, although cryptic, not that hard to understand. Out of the box is fully secure, no additionally configuration needed, it is already onionized. They are, additionally, self funded with their token, therefore they do not depend on handouts from "benefactors" or VC that ultimately can compromise the project.

That is a good question and the answer is relative, you asked which one is more secure for messaging and you did not mentioned privacy of anonymity features which are tied to the concept of secure but not a must.
You missed probably, in my opinion one of the top 3, which is Session...
All three offer you a great level of security in the areas of privacy and decentralization but out of the box only one anonymize you, which is Session...

Hands down Amethyst for Android does the job perfectly, but you need to do some configuration yourself,select privacy to full in settings, select proper relays, install your own relay even better and let but not least, sign in with Amber with TOR enabled. Not sure what do you mean,
To the best of my knowledge, ProtonMail uses end-to-end encryption to protect user data, meaning that only the sender and recipient can read the contents of the messages. ProtonMail itself does not have access to the encryption keys, which means they cannot decrypt your emails.
Granted that it is best to have 2FA for better security and the two-password mode is a plus.

I suggest you change one setting and it is to remove your wallet setup from Amethyst...
Why?
1. You keep your Ameghyst in full privacy
2. When you try to zap someone Amethyst will open a prompt for you to select the wallet you want to use to zap, which means you are not married to a wallet to send zaps and is quite fast and convenient the same.
3. This does not affect you receiving zaps at all.
