I'm a privacy nerd on the periphery of bitcoin. I found Twitter and Reddit horribly hostile spaces (actually got banned from the Reddit sub for asking an honest question haha). People here and on Telegram are far more open to good faith conversations.

You're on the right track. Don't even try to "pill" people. Nobody likes being preached to. Just lead by example and people will follow

Making some progress. Downgraded from the RC to the latest stable on my node and it is at least accepting normal peers again.

Taking a break for the night. Been fun ⚡ING but now time to 😴.

That's sort of what I was doing. Had a node for a while that was working for IP connections. Shut the channels because I wasn't using it. Tried to buy an inbound on tor for the first time, not working but everything looks fine.

Can't tell if this is tor being flaky or a mistake I made months ago setting this up haha

Thanks for the link! As far as I can see my config is OK, but I'll work through everything again step by step. Probably missed something obvious...

Gonna try getting a lightning channel via IP instead, but really confused why Tor isn't cooperating.

I can add Tor peers on my lightning node but can't accept incoming Tor connections because it throws a socks error for the person trying to connect to me.

Any ideas please?

Gonna set up LNBits and try running a paid Nostr relay. Not sitting on a lot of crypto to lock up in a node these days so this is a great way to get started with supporting the network.
