🦋Passionate about Bitcoin, innovation and the edges of creativity.🦋

I just love that when the mascot is used… it’s running. 😁. Cause it’s soooooo much fun to play chase with giant ostriches! Having a giant bird flapping it’s wings running faster than you, at you, is a totally exhilarating experience! Dam they are fast, fun and hilarious! Kind of like NOSTR!🤪

According to their 2021 annual report, in 2020 they consumed 71,600 metric tons of pulp for their newsprint division alone which is about 148,000 trees, emitting 1,380,000,000 pounds of CO2, consuming 2,970,000,000 gallons of water, emitting 100,000 pounds of hazardous pollutants. This just factors in production impact, when papers are not recycled about 80% there are additional impacts in landfills to calculate such as production of methane.

Would be fun to calculate a data driven estimate of their total environmental impact since 1851. Given scale of their podcasting and magazine ventures, their data center consumption would be quite substantial too, in addition to all their transportation costs too.

Upon quick glance the 2021 annual shareholder report doesn’t include anything about their sustainability strategy and mitigating their environmental impact.

This environmental paper network calculator is pretty cool.🤓

Great to read about this ! Thanks!

“Schlemmer noted decentralization provides resiliency in times of crisis.”

Something I’ve been contemplating for a few years now, is how to reinvent new economic models that compensate Open Source Developers. I think the opportunity to build a decentralized social coding solution on Nostr with lightning integration, we are at the threshold for inventing totally new economic models for coding and creative collaboration.

Playing with Zaps these last few weeks has totally changed my framework of thought process about the types of frictionless systems that could be built to incentivize and empower Open Source developers and creatives of all mediums.

I am excited to see what types of conversations and solutions emerge about inventing new economic models to support Open Source developers and creatives of all mediums.

🤙 Morning! Looks like you have a fascinating matrix of interests. Great to meet you virtually in the Nostr mayhem. Have a beautiful Friday! 🦋✨

Morning vibes… 😁 caffeinating for a productive day. ☕️

Currently I’m in the middle of a big move, so nothing too exciting to report just yet. Still dipping my toes into Nostr ecosystem to develop a terrain of the foundational tech and what people are currently creating and motivated by, there is so much I have yet to explore. Looking forward to allocating more time soon as I get settled.

I’m particularly motivated to explore new economic models that facilitate frictionless collaboration to ignite an empowered sovereign creative Renaissance. I have some projects that I’ve been incubating for a couple of years that may be totally adaptable to Nostr.

As I reflect of the sovereign opportunities Nostr opens, I am also evaluating current risks to the Open Source developer ecosystem in light of regulatory and legal challenges on the horizon. So as much as I am reflecting on what I am inspired to build; I am also reflecting on what kind of systems would be helpful to help secure the future of Open Source Innovation which will be key helping secure the future of Digital Sovereignty.

“London Stock Exchange Group to launch a service enabling institutional clients to take leveraged bets on bitcoin.

The bitcoin-denominated futures and options would be bought and sold by investment banks, hedge fund managers and asset managers.

By using a clearing house like LCH, the risk that counterparties to a trade could go bust and renege is largely eliminated.

The LSEG/GFO-X move follows a scramble to offer bitcoin trading to wholesale investors, with US rival CME Group already offering bitcoin futures and options, while another US exchanges group CBOE has acquired a digital asset exchange, ErisX. Deutsche Boerse’s Eurex platform is also due to launch bitcoin related derivatives trading shortly.”

This is a an interesting interview with Daniel Yergin the author of The New Map: Energy, Climate, and the Clash of Nations about witnessing the beginning of the end of the dollar’s supremacy?

“Historically, the United States punished nations that tried to trade oil using currencies other than the US dollar. But recently it has not been able to stop countries from branching out and making deals in other currencies.

Russia and China are leading the charge, but more countries may be jumping on the bandwagon, including Brazil and Saudi Arabia.”

This is great news! Thanks for sharing!

“Acknowledging the unique opportunity presented by Bitcoin's creation and global adoption, the organisation strives to attract investments to the UK, generate jobs, and drive new industries, while tapping into wasted and stranded energy resources. “

What an adorable coworker! 😻

This is thought provoking🧐.

“Developing advanced AI systems requires huge capital, scientific resources, best talent, vast amounts of data and computing power — resources that “industry actors inherently possess in greater amounts compared to non-profits and academia”.

Last year, industry released 32 major machine learning models, whereas academia produced only three.

Until 2014, academia was producing important machine learning simulations or projects, but industry has taken over since then, the report found.”

This is why I think direct to consumer advertising from pharmaceuticals should end. Given the susceptibility of human mind to suggestion, the side effects listing at end of drug ads seems to be an illness inducing suggestion. In my opinion, to shift the public health profile will require ending DTC advertising from pharmaceuticals.

“ Americans pay more for drugs and medical devices than any other country. Big Pharma follows potential patients everywhere — on TV, in print and online. Companies spend billions advertising to doctors to get them prescribe their brand-name drugs and devices. They also spend billions paying criminal and civil settlements resulting from fraudulent marketing.”

Thanks for bringing this security related terrain assessment attention. Informative to reflect on how “countries of concern abuse spyware to target intellectuals, human rights defenders (HRDs), journalists, activists and other members of civil society.”

A good quick thought provoking read is Blown to Bits- your Life, Liberty and Happiness after the Digital Explosion by Hal Abelson et al.

“The digital explosion is creating both opportunities and risks. Many of both will be gone in a decade, settled one way or another. Governments, corporations, and other authorities are taking advantage of the chaos, and most of us

don’t even see it happening. Yet we all have a stake in the outcome. Beyond the science, the history, the law, and the politics, this book is a wake-up call.”
