+8°C in Stockholm, Sweden. First day to bicycle without gloves. Moreover, just 8 days left towards the start of my Spring Tour 2024 with the #Brompton. First goal is Cologne, Germany; then on to Austria. #BikeTooter
Some of my findings from my tour with the #Brompton from Sweden to Graz in Austria.
(1) 20 kilogram of luggage works fine.
(2) The Brompton rolls firmly on all kinds of surfaces.
(3) I could ride up to 7% on paved roads. When steeper, I had to push.
(4) Crossing the Alps was no major problem. All in all, I had to push about two hours. This was mainly getting up Koppen Pass on a gravel road between Obertraun and Bad Aussee in Austria.

Yesterday's best thing on my #Brompton tour to Austria: I felt a kind of schadenfreude when passing a car queue of 3 kilometers length waiting for the ferries crossing river Elbe. And I got priority boarding. The rest of the day: lots of cars, fast and loud, and two hours of rain. And a wiener schnitzel on the Elbe in the evening sun.

Maybe an interesting comparison:
My SOP and I toured through Sweden in 2022 and 2023. Last year, we toured with ordinary touring bicycles, this year we toured with folding bikes.
I compared the two tours, and got a really surprising result: (1) On this year's tour with the #Brompton, our average daily distance was 4% longer than last year. (2) On this year's tour with the #Brompton, the average speed
was 3% faster than last year.

My biggest inspiration for #BicycleTouring was Iohan Gueorguiev. I spent a good part of today re-watching Iohan's YouTube videos, starting from his legendary first video "I want to see the world: The North (1 of 2)". What an amazing person he was.

I am currently planning a hybrid tour from Stockholm to Austria. With tent, camping gas stove, and interrail ticket. The more I think it through, the more exited I get. Visiting family, and a class reunion: #51 already.
