#HamRadio is being used to save lives during #Hurricane #Helene response.

Watch a summary from the Ham Radio Crash Course:

https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/watch?v=-NqU790vavI

Listen online to a local repeater being used to coordinate response efforts:

Use this as motivation to learn ham radio yourself! There are a ton of great, free learning resources online including HRCC channel linked above and hamstudy.org

You don’t need hundreds of dollars in gear to get started.

You can get a decent starter handheld radio for $20-$50. Many people start with a Baofeng UV-5R:

Here’s the non-invidious link to the HRCC YouTube video if you don’t want to watch it via a proxy

It’s a great idea to form such mutual-aid groups and loose networks in advance of disasters so you can plan and train communications, logistics, safety, etc

For example, your local ham radio club or ARES group probably has a weekly “nets” at a rescheduled time where people get on to ensure they can communicate.

Eh, I’m #ZapsOnly but still waiting for easy integrated GIFs

I’ve had a few over the years but I currently use the LuxeBidet NEO 185. It’s simple so pretty inexpensive and reliable.

I’ll use this as a chance for a periodic suggestion to everyone to consider buying a #bidet attachment for your toilet. They are cheap these days, easy to install, clean great, and cut down on total TP needed. LuxeBidet is a great option to consider.

I lived in Europe for a few years and this was one of many upgrades I took from that time. nostr:note1m5t4vxu2h3765plnwtnt4ypjgj00xa4hykzekc3dk0kjw8vfmgjqs70v8h

Quite a bit to consider and depends where you are at and where you want to be, your expected issues, etc. If you are just beginning and looking for general all around readiness, there’s a lot of low hanging fruit.

Water extremely important so would probably be #1 focus

Something to think about!

I saw one like this but with a bunch of things like gardening, eating well, etc, but can’t find it anymore. Would zap variants of this meme concept if people share/make

That’s not educated that’s indoctrinated

(But point taken 😉)

I wonder what would happen if charitable donations went from being tax deductible (reducing the base you are taxed on) to tax credits (1 for 1 reduction of tax amount owed)?

Ha, I’m not a big fan either tbh.
