If you think you *own* an iOS device, think again.

Insane story.

"After nearly 30 years as a loyal customer, authoring technical books on Apple’s own programming languages (Objective-C and Swift), and spending tens upon tens upon tens of thousands of dollars on devices, apps, conferences, and services, I have been locked out of my personal and professional digital life with no explanation and no recourse."

Merry Christmas my dear nostriches! 🎄🫂

nostr:npub16g4umvwj2pduqc8kt2rv6heq2vhvtulyrsr2a20d4suldwnkl4hquekv4h for example

I often hear people unable to use Graphene because (bank app) and this never made sense to me.

I won't question why you still use a bank, but why the app?

Access that crap via web? Use a plastic card and thats it?

Cool! Beware it's very outdated

I have no idea, nostr:nprofile1qqsqgc0uhmxycvm5gwvn944c7yfxnnxm0nyh8tt62zhrvtd3xkj8fhgpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerfw36x7tnsw43z7qgkwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhx6mmnw3ezuur4vghs0klf00 ?

Also i haven't pushed updates in a while, I could sync things up this week

Because trimming videos on iOS is awesome and on Graphene it sucks, I created this:

Video Razor – A minimal Android video trimmer with nondestructive editing, precision zoom for frame-accurate trimming, and instant sharing

Surround yourself with beautiful things

It's used by a few major wallets, I have used it regularly. That probably does not count as obsolete?

Lightning has a lot of issues. Maybe the risk is worth the reward for certain amounts.

The Ark protocol looks interesting. I need to dive deeper.

At a high level, what are the tradeoffs? Can it make Liquid obsolete?

#asknostr

I have been lurking on Twitter a little bit this morning.

Many more people on there, higher probability and incentive for dumb and provocative takes. Perfect food for the algo.

The only thing that will make Nostr materially grow are companies with an economic incentive to bring new users

Something around Community.

Which is my intention. Here's a rough plan what I got in my head right now:

Problem: Communities around open source and freedom tech software development are fragmented.

- Code collab is mostly on GitHub but also on Gitlab, Gitea and some others.

- Conversation is scattered in even more places like Telegram, Discord, Signal, Simplex (group chat) and Reddit, Discourse, Github and some others (forum-like interactions).

- Coordination efforts like events (physical and virtual like community calls) are all over the internet as well

From the project leader's perspective open source is mostly a love-hate grind. Dealing with a flood of issues and PRs, keeping the community engaged and trying to balance a life with all challenges of open-source.

From the beginner dev's perspective It's really hard to get started and become useful. There's inherently low trust due to low quality contributions and churn. Hard to find mentors and jump-start a career, although it's attractive from the distance. College doesn't teach you useful stuff so this would be a nice replacement.

From the companies' perspective it's increasingly hard to find talent. College kids come out with fiat knowledge that's hard to utilize without massive investment from the company.

What all of these lack is a high-trust environment, sort of like a guild of the old days where craft and apprenticeship was taken seriously, and where talent can grow.

Moderated communities on Nostr are like these guilds in my head, without the monopolistic prices because you get a simple exit and continuity using Nostr.

Grow the community --> Establish Trust and let people earn reputation doing open-source /freedom tech work --> Get sponsored by companies for visibility in a place where mostly everyone could be their next hire.

Get sponsored on the main community site, community streams, etc. Companies could also pay for zapraisers in the community to virtue-signal.

They effectively pay for open-source development without having a say in what gets developed and how leaders want to manage their groups.

LinkedIn and such are just very lame these days. Everyone's there because they have to. It's because that is a low-trust environment, bad for recruiters.

Nostr could be the next place to grow developer talent. And we have literally everything to make this happen, the hard work is to grow successful communities. These will become unstoppable because if leaders screw up, members fork and keep it alive someplace else. It's the most trivial to do compared to other protocols.

BudaBit is designed to do something like this. Gives control to project leaders over their code collab (issues, PRs on Nostr, code anywhere at all redundantly), over the conversation (forum-like threads and group chat), coordination (calendar, later calls and streams), and funding (zaps, potential sponsorships).

Everything is verifiable and the content is compatible with other nostr apps. This coupled with moderation creates the perfect competition for the best communities where devs thrive, and is sustainable.

This is kind of my vision.

Interesting!

Fantastic piece. Could not agree more.

> When the self-sovereign option spooks users while the centralized option feels safe, we haven’t built freedom tech. We’ve built a hobby for risk-tolerant technical elites.

> The best protocol in the world accomplishes nothing if nobody uses it. We have to win commercially to win ideologically.

> Having better technology that nobody uses doesn’t fix anything.

> We need the collective commitment to building freedom tech that wins on merit, not martyrdom.

A candid update on the new nostr:npub10r8xl2njyepcw2zwv3a6dyufj4e4ajx86hz6v4ehu4gnpupxxp7stjt2p8 app:

The entire thing was rewritten from scratch to address various issues, this time with a sound architecture. On this new foundation, I was able to develop some very requested features which are basically finished.

Last week I was ready to announce an alpha version for testers, excited as this would start the culmination of months of work. Then, I detected an anomaly during relay reconnections. Turns out the websocket pool implementation had several major flaws, in short, it was a mess. So the LLM agent and I decided to rewrite it. Unfortunately I am still having trouble, as it can't really figure this stuff out and my motivation is to debug websocket connections is at an all-time low.

Between my own internal pressure and constant user demands pulling me in all directions, I need to balance things not to approach burnout territory. Running a project like Zapstore is not for a solo developer, much less for me at a point where low-level coding literally feels like a waste of life.

That said, I'm incredibly bullish on Zapstore. With big tech closing it claws, the world needs an open bitcoin-based app marketplace more than ever.

Two options moving forward: finish frying my brain on an isolated downspiral, or move toward a place that rekindles my motivation: making Zapstore grow. I will surely find a team and a way to sustain it long term.

While time is our scarcest asset, I know this can't happen overnight. But eyes on the prize. Thank you for your attention to this matter, if you'll excuse me I now have some websocket logic to take care of.

Every single thing you do messes with your body's internal signalling.

Aspirin is refined willow bark. Probably the most studied drug in history and a net benefit in most cases.

I will do, however, the UX I want is to add nostr.land once for r/w/dm and you figure everything out

How can I benefit from "Make your feeds load instantly with the Nostr.land aggregator," when clients read from a hundred other relays anyway?

Thank you. Two strange things about notifications

- they worked well on Jumble up until a few days ago and suddenly cut off

- they work on Coracle no problem

That said nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qg3waehxw309ahx7um5wghxcctwvshsqgzjkjs8d09mhhp6rth6xu6czm8hfxfmrwxmyq4srjyrck9707kch5shkva4 why would nostr.land reject a note intended to reach me?

Imagine a Wireguard app that automatically cycles through disposable configs (paid with ecash)

No more connecting to well-known IPs from centralized VPN providers

It's okay, I still haven't found a great model

It's a brand. We need to start somewhere, all alternatives are worse

Why not?

Everybody knows phones spy on them.

If well marketed, a phone like that can be placed and it can sell

We need one billionaire that wants to make it work

But except Jack they are all a bunch of pussies so not keeping my hopes up
