Anyone know of a VPN client that uses PKI instead of login/password and supports lightning payments for usage rather than monthly subscription?
Facebook marketplace has become the defacto classifieds and I hate it. And their UI sucks arse. We desperately need this to become the default market place.
Hard to keep track, so nip17 is the easier to implement DM, and Marmot is the full on ultimate privacy DM and group chat, but much more work to implement?
Same, if I asked them to switch again they would tell me to fuck off and then they would revert to WhatsApp. I try to tell people that they really want to be on as many varied chat apps as possible. If they aren't on 3 or 4 then they need to install more :)
Today I am stepping down from my role as the CEO of #Mastodon. Though this has been in the works for a while, I can't say I've fully processed how I feel about it. There is a bittersweet part to it, and I think I will miss it, but it also felt necessary. It feels like a goodbye, but it isn'tāI intend to stay on and continue to advise the new leadership and contribute, because Mastodonāand the fediverseāis one of the very few beacons of hope for a better web.

Clicked on mastodon link, got cloudflare error due centralized hosting. Mastadon fails at every step. Not as bad as bluesky admittedly
That changelog š
Ooh nice, will have to go check it out.
Aurora was so bright the ground turned green.

Wow, I just spent a few days in Finland to see the aurora but had bad weather. Where abouts is this?
Why is the FOSDEM 2026 social web devroom only about Mastodon? I thought everyone understood Mastodon was broken long ago.

The world would actually be better with 500 smaller dictatorships and freedom of migration. Then people could just move to their favourite ideology.
Welcome Rae, I think its a good idea to follow at least one new account per week to keep your timeline fresh, keep the web-of-trust ticking. Followed.
Is it just me or is Github buggy as hell? Causing my browser to lock up
Nostr users should make a conscious effort to add a handful of new follows per week to help with integrating newcomers. If we don't then the handful of static followers you have will slowly drop over time as people leave.
More difficult to implement, and you don't wanna rush it and leak someones keys accidentally.
Why wait with that sword of Damocles over your head?
I think forking AOSP once google changes it to the point of incompatibility, and going it alone from there. Maybe even having to stick to a release version indefinitely if no resources to maintain.
Unfortunately a lot of devs are very low-t individuals. So the industry definitely leans left/woke.
They can only enforce this on centralised platforms. Nostr is safe, although we might want to start utilising Tor & i2p a lot more, get ready for when everything needs to be onion routed.
Except the EU is slowly and methodically rigging every eastern European election to get them on board. Romania, poland, Moldova!
Like most people, I have my issues with NPM. But this is a big problem for any platform that hosts large amounts of code. You can't verify that much code for vulnerabilities. Fdroid is probably the most successful at any sort of scale.

In this 40 second demo, Arjen shows how a browser recognizes https://npub123etc.nostr address in the URL bar, and proceeds to fetch the website from a relay.

Video decoding is broken for iOS. Open on desktop (e.g. via iris.to/) works.

The point of DNS was to not have to remember random numbers but a memorable name. Npubs are not easy to remember.
