FreelyGiven is a registered 501c3 nonprofit doing Catholic mission work in Cambodia, consisting of free medical care, work with orphans, at-risk children, and ministry to prostitutes.

After attempting to land in Atlanta, we were redirected to Charlotte, North Carolina, where we sat on the tarmac in the plane for five hours. Eventually, we deboarded and they put us all in buses in the middle of the night for a five hour bus ride to Atlanta. Along the way, all of our luggage disappeared. In an only slightly humorous turn of events, we ended up waiting in the very ticket area where we said goodbye to our family three years ago and moved Cambodia! Hence the forced smiles in the selfie. Jacelyn and the kids are safely at her parents’ and I’m hiding in this corner, waiting for our bags to supposedly arrive from Charlotte! More updates and details to come.

45 hours of travel. Almost landed in Atlanta. Got redirected to a different state due to weather. Accommodations are arranged by the airline. Delaying our final arrival by a day. But these kids are hard core travelers and are doing great. Of course, the games on-screen help.

I tried the knob for far too long in front of far too many people. I even briefly considered trying a random code.

Davey and Jacob Marley, sharing a goodbye hug.

On our way to America! More details to come.

Introducing the FGI Cycling Club!! (Not the official name)

Realizing that so much trouble happens among the youth when they don’t have something to be a part of or something to pour effort into, we decided to ask the young guys at the pastoral home if they’d be interested in starting a biking club. The interest and excitement was immediate!

We found a bike rental place that would let us rent for $3 per bike and we spent the whole afternoon racing around Angkor Wat on the bike trails!

We all went to Mass, ate breakfast roadw for hours, had a small decotional tome, and ended with dinner. The guys had a wonderful time and are excited for next month. If you know anyone in the biking world who’d be interested in helping us make this a regular reality, please get them in touch with us!

As usual, we cannot thank you all enough for your prayers and support in being here in Cambodia!!!!

Every week, I drive around the neighborhood behind the Pastoral Home, and cram a ton of kids into the belly of The Beast (our big tuktuk). They all call me Papa Nic and it warms my soul.

Even though we believe that Christians (especially Catholic Christians) should be reaching out to those in need whether they “feel it” or not, I cannot express in adequate words how lucky I feel to meet these people, help them, and be there for them. Goodness gracious, it’s insane how good we have it! #catholic #catholicmissionary #freelyyoureceivefreelygive
