Went to Mutekiya in Ikebukuro for the first time last Wednesday for lunch. It was a 40 minute wait in line to get in, and I’m not usually one to wait in ramen lines. Was it worth it? I think it was, mainly for those thick, beautiful chashu slices. The broth was quite good too but it’s the chashu that did it for me.

Katsuura Behara Ramen Yamamuraya for lunch today. I’m always happy to see more things popping up in Chiba, and this iekei style ramen was a great addition. It was solid, and worth a stop if you’re in the area and tired of Katsuura tantanmen.

In Kyoto yesterday and today and on our way to Senbon Tori and Inari Taisha we stopped at Ramen Hiwamatanoboru which was 5 minute walk away. It was a really thick chicken/pork broth with roast beef chashu. The broth was similar to Tenkaippin, which I also love. They also have wagyu shoyu ramen if that’s more your style. Heading to Osaka and Hakuba shortly so more to come.

I moved from Kanda to Ikebukuro last week, and before moving I searched google maps for places i wanted to eat and drink whiskey. I’ve got around 70-80 places tagged so far and already knocked a few off the list. This area has so much to offer.
Anyway, last night was some place named: Shanghai-Fuchun Shoron Ikebukuro-Nishiguchi2gouten
I recommend the soup dumplings (sholonpo). They were legit, and the staff were super friendly.

Gapao rice lunch set at Mekong in Ikebukuro. Chili peppers available on the table if you want to kick up the spice a notch or two. I’m picky about my gapao and this one was excellent. Probably number 2 on my gapao top list, outside of Thailand of course :)

Tantan tsukemen from Kinryu near Kanda Awajicho. Moving out of Kanda area tomorrow so I won’t be as close to this place. It’s really popular, with a line every day, but the stars aligned today with only two people waiting,on our last day in the neighborhood. :)

I was sad when they closed my local branch of Tenkaippin in Kanda, but they just reopened a new one! Woohoo! I love their kotteri (thick) pork broth, and the miso paste and white pepper they have on the table goes nice with it. Blast from the past.

Just watched the ISS flyover from Kanda, Tokyo about 30 minutes ago. If you’re in the Kanto region, here are the flyover times for the next few days. It was extremely bright in the sky, even with the city lights. Will travel from northwest to southeast.

Grilled sea bream earlier tonight, among other wonderful dishes I will post later. OMG. Papandreou in Kanda is spectacular. I wouldn’t give away my secrets, but it seems that blue sky is gonna get the traffic rather than nostr and that’s unfortunate. More to come.

Hangry Joe’s opened in Kanda Sudacho. Got takeout today for lunch. Damn good chicken sandwich. Was level 3 spicy and had a good spice. It’s chicken breast, which I love, and the batter was nice and crispy. I’m going for level 5 next time!

A variation of tantanmen from Meito Shokudo in Ichinomiya Chiba. The spicy meat, menma, and onions were great. My issue was the overabundance of moyashi. I think there was more moyashi than noodles. I also got some otsumami chashu, and the chashu was amazing, and definitely the highlight of the meal. If I go back it’s gonna be chashu ramen next time.
