Even aside from the population decline arguments, being a parent is the best and I’d never give it up!

Sounds legit …

Saylor is making negative public statements about crypto anarchists, but https://www.hope.com/resources still lists Soverign Individual, Murray Rothbard, and Hans Herman Hoppe. I know he's actually read these books because I've heard him talk about them.

I see three possible scenarios now. Listed in order of likelihood.

1. He understands libertarian theory, but has become enamored with power and wants to join the high finance club. He's more interested in compromising with them than he is with a genuine renaissance. (Likely)

2. He's somehow compromised through blackmail or some other conflict of interest and has yet to be able to break free from that. (Possible)

3. He is an exremely talented actor as well as an investor and CEO. He didn't mean anything he said in his recent interviews and is playing coy for his advantage. (Very unlikely)

I feel it’s option 1. If he ascends in the TradFi circles then he can kick it with the ultra wealthy in the fiat system. And when fiat eventually collapses, he’s got so much Bitcoin that he’ll be fine on a Bitcoin standard. By playing both camps, he’s got the best of both worlds.

It repeatedly blows my mind, just how fundamentally decent the majority of people here are.

My hope/theory is that it’s not actually “just like this on Nostr”. While it’s true that a number of us have overlapping interests or worldviews, there is also a natural diversity: people from all around the world, with different cultures, languages, philosophies, and experiences, all show up here to say GM.

It’s more of a cultural bell curve, where the majority of people are pretty chill, decent human beings, who generally like each other and respect one another’s differences.

My radical proposition is that this actually reflects the real world, and that the current cultural narrative of unrelenting division - while it has some truth to it, for sure — is drastically overblown, both on a personal level and by the media. On the edges of the bell curve are the very niche, very loud, and very “divided” subcultures. These groups have been given the loudest microphones.

Individually, if we only interact with the toxic, rage-bait algorithms that have come to define modern social/media (because it’s in journalism too), we experience the world through this clouded lens. We’re fed a continuous diet of disagreement, outrage, war, etc., because we click on it and thus the people making the content decisions get paid.

Remove the algorithms, and you remove the illusion of irreconcilable division. Nostr is a perfect case study of this, and so far it’s going beautifully.

I’m cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue when the user base grows 10x, 100x, because my view is that humanity is primarily good. Time will tell, and incentives will matter. But I’m hopeful that on a value-for-value, proof-of-work standard, our better instincts will prevail.

Completely agree, left alone I believe people have a tendency to get along and work together for the good of their community.

Agreed. Nowadays I wouldn’t be surprised if the police knocked on your door because you had the audacity to point out that criminals are walking around with machetes!

I had to read it to believe it. The absolute balls on them to spout this when their money printing has led to the finalisation of every commodity and asset at the detriment of the working and middle classes. Fuck the ECB and keep building the new system!

After years of struggling with eczema, I’m looking forward to trying my first tallow skin cream today after being inspired by a few people on Nostr! Wish me luck 🐮 #tallowstr

Funnily enough I’ve got an order of tallow moisturiser and soap coming tomorrow from a local farm. I’ve struggled with eczema for years so hoping it makes a difference because the creams I’ve been prescribed most of my life certainly haven’t!
