Why https://coracle.social shows me a feed of people I don't follow and am not interested in following?

oh, I guess that was the global feed. but my actual feed is empty.

faltou um acento aí no ô

wss://expensive-relay.fiatjaf.com/ only has some of my own posts, which are also in all other relays, and probably no one else is publishing to there. and yet my server is going crazy with thousands of requests most of which return empty results but still hammer the database every single time. what have I done wrong?

so did we cut all corners and p2p stuff in order to make a decentralized social network that was fast and worked, but in the end what we got was a lot of very slow clients that can't handle the traffic of one jack dorsey tweet?

Jack Dorsey has sent me money to fund Nostr development.

Since we don't have a Nostr-based shareable text editor, I've made this Google Document thing with ideas that were in my head on how to use this money in the way that is the best for the project: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10xKQIO969GoNnAEnoMgJky69lG-_TslnqO4uIfioi1Y/edit

These are just ideas, nothing is final. Please comment there (or here) with whatever you may be thinking.

https://github.com/vinliao/phrasetown this is a nice client to copy if you want to make a client but don't want to make the UI. just replace the calls to farcaster to equivalent calls to nostr relays. from a quick glance at the code it looks easy, much much easier than porting mastodon apps or other stuff. it's in Svelte.

there is no replication, you just ask relays for stuff and there is no guarantee at all of what you're going to get back.

maybe instead of creating a new full-featured client that will be abandoned people should do micro-apps that do only one thing and do it well, like a client just for reading threads, other only for posting stuff and reading replies and not caring about anything else, one just for DMs, one just for group chats, one just for managing your contacts, one just for tweaking your relays list

also there is no way to "try nostr". you can only try a specific client, not the protocol per se. it's a subtle distinction but one that is very relevant in our context I think.

this is why I am against telling people to "try nostr". no, they must understand it before they try otherwise they will definitely get disappointed at the current state of the clients.

I hate France

do we have kinds on the delegation permission string? maybe we should. or default to kind=1 unless specified.

I think it should be fixed now.

I started to read after a million recommendations and thought it was very bad

thank you: who is using that?

what is the standard people are using for lightning tips? is there a magic field I can add to my metadata event to accept tips from supporting clients?

I have a hard time @-ing people. alphaama doesn't work, tried coracle and damus web and nothing.
