I thought the initial church had a bunch of independent bishops without any central authority to command them all.

When?
I actually did.
You mean like a generic platform for long-form articles? There are at least 3 initiatives I've seen, but each is doing its own thing different from the others and it would be much better if there was a common standard and everybody implemented that.
This is the initiative: #[1]
Ideally, when clients start to get smart about relay querying, paid relays will be a great source of spam-free content to be queried for when you don't know what exactly you're looking for. Some badly-written thoughts on this here: https://fiatjaf.com/3f106d31.html
A guide to the only (so far) Nostr desktop client: https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip
I was beginning to write one but I decided to ask if you would accept it first before continuing.
Answer my PR!
I was trying to show Nostr to some people today in real life and in all web clients I tried a global feed immediately jumped into the screen and it contained raw porn every time.
It should be part of the Nostr spec then: "All software must be written with LMDB as data stores."
In this NIP `created_at` will be equivalent to `updated_at`. The actual `created_at` would have to be in an extra metadata field, which is fine by me.
C++ wins against Rust: #[0]
I think saving or not saving should be done only from the relay point of view, so clients should be mindful of which relays they are using if they want to save the entire history or not. Regardless of that, for the immediate reader of an article they should be using a relay that only returns the latest _item_, not the entire history, as that would be terrible if the article is big enough and has had many edits.
"nitem1..."? OK, I like that too.
There was a Nostr client named in tribute to Trudeau: https://github.com/prolic/futr
If any Haskell developer is willing to take on it that would be worth some nice incentive bounties.
More micro-bounties from the Fiatjaf Nostr Foundation sent to #[0] from https://hamstr.to/, #[1] from https://nostr.watch and to the designers who did these relay-centric designs for the bounty at https://bountsr.org/design/2023/01/26/relay-based-design.html.
