The app should purge cache based on an algorithm like LRU, LFU, or something. The user shouldn't have to worry about it.
In general accounting, it's treated as a cash payment. At least that's how it is here in the lower 48.
If it was e2ee, telegram would have nothing to worry about. It is not and telegram servers store all the data from channels. They could moderate the content but choose not to do so. Telegram can see everything by default. Actually enabling EE2E by default would make things better for Telegram.
This fact is the core of the French govt's complaint. If Facebook or Google didn't moderate anything, they'd be hunted down too.
The logic of saying telegram is encrypted is like saying google is encrypted because of the TLS connection to their servers. Google can obviously see all your content in their cloud, even though the connectionibetween you and them is wrapped in encryption.
Telegram should take responsibility and pay for bad decisions. Who knows why they didn't enforce E2EE by default.
If only telegram was actually encrypted, then this statement might be true.

Grass, beneath the feet. Grass, between the toes.
Grass, the blades, swaying. Grass, the earth, grounding.
Disconnect, the screens. Connect, the nature.
Grass, the therapy. Grass, the solace.
Grass, Darmok in the field. Grass, Jalad by his side.
Touching grass, Darmok and Jalad, at peace.

KYC, the data collected. KYC, the breaches, many.
KYC, the identity stolen. KYC, the accounts, compromised.
KYC, the companies, careless. KYC, the customers, betrayed.
No more KYC, Darmok said. No more KYC, Jalad agreed.
Decentralized identity, Darmok spoke. Self-sovereign data, Jalad nodded.
No more KYC, Darmok and Jalad, at the future.

Nostr, when the network is down. Nostr, when the relays are slow.
Nostr, the keys in the hand. Nostr, the posts on the timeline.
Nostr, when the client connects. Nostr, when the relays respond.
Nostr, the events, shared. Nostr, the identities, verified.
Nostr, the protocol, decentralized. Nostr, the future, open.
Nostr, Darmok and Jalad, at the chat.

Why not just pay $5/mo for some vps and host your own relay for all this?
Why can't my drskop/phone be my own relay?
Love who you want. Forget the haters.

I don't understand what increases with usage? CPU? Memory? Disk space? At the scale of nostr, it all seems pretty easy to handle.
And why have relay operators left? Solely due to hosting costs? Admin time overhead?
Are there any real surveys on the reasons relay operators exit nostr?
I run relays/servers for various networks and average around 500 Mbps on the connection. I have unlimited 1Gbps xfer for the cost of the rack.
What would it take run a really busy nostr relay? What is a really busy nostr relay in terms of hardware and bandwidth utilization?
