He/Him Ham radio op N3VEM. Into HF mostly, but also run a repeater, and dabble with rockets a little bit as a cross-over hobby. #UnitarianUniversalist - Respecter of the living web & justice is for everyone. Ask me why I don’t own a microwave. I have a day job, but it's not what defines me - I'd rather talk about #HamRadio, #ModelRockets, #SocialJustice, #Electronics, #DIY, #Making or anything else you are passionate about. Might swear a little when angry. Sorry.

#electronics and #HamRadio #DIY peeps: for surge suppression, for a control line, DXE sells this thing, for like a lot of money. based on the picture it looks like its just a capacitor from each wire to ground, I'm assuming theory is that normal use the capacitor blocks the dc control voltages from ground, but with impulse or ac induced by nearby lightning would shunt to ground.

Anyway, the question is....

does anyone know what type/value of capacitors to use, if I were to home brew this?

Just a reminder if anyone needs to hear it, because I just came across another “my way of doing ham radio is the only way of doing ham radio” blockhead.

Do what brings you joy, in the way that brings you joy.

If someone tries to tell you otherwise, do what I did - block, and move on.
