How often were gay people being turned away from shops 10 years ago? Was it really a problem before.
It depends a lot on place and time. In some parts of Brazil, especially urban centers, gay and trans people were visible and often tolerated, which gave the country a reputation for being queer-friendly. But starting in the 1980s and 1990s, the rapid expansion of neopentecostal churches shifted the climate in many regions. They converted large numbers of locals and pushed a strong backlash against LGBTQ+ people and Afro-Brazilian religions like Candomblé and Umbanda, often branded as “witchcraft.” In those areas, prejudice became more open and organized, and daily discrimination—like being turned away from shops—grew worse over time.

The Eagle That Still Watches From Stone – Franconian Woods
In the deep silence of the Franconian woods, an abandoned quarry hides one of the most haunting relics of the Nazi era. Carved directly into the cliffside, a massive Reich eagle once symbolized power and domination, its wings stretching wide across the valley. During the dark years of the regime, this eagle loomed as an emblem of fear, casting its shadow over nearby villages. Now, moss and creeping vines cover its stone feathers, softening what was once a symbol of oppression. On bright days, the shadow of its wings still falls long across the valley, as if the past refuses to fully disappear. For locals, this forgotten eagle is not a monument but a burden, one they prefer not to touch, though it stands as a chilling reminder of how ideology can be carved into both stone and memory. Nature, patient and relentless, continues its quiet work of reclaiming.

🚨 Why Freedom Matters MORE Than Forced Equality
History proves this time and time again. When governments control markets, limit choices, and promise \"fairness\" over freedom, the result is rationing, shortages, and less opportunity for everyone.
But when societies prioritize freedom, prosperity follows—lifting everyone up.
That’s why Tuttle Twins teaches kids the real principles of free markets, personal responsibility, and limited government—lessons most schools won’t teach.

What Portugal Wants: A 1916 Map of Its Ambitions
In 1916, as World War I reshaped colonial rivalries, Portugal published a map titled “What Portugal Wants.” This striking document illustrated the country’s imperial ambitions in Africa, particularly its desire to connect its colonies of Angola and Mozambique through a transcontinental corridor.
The map reflected both national aspirations and the geopolitical tensions of the time, as European empires competed for dominance across Africa. While many of these ambitions were never realized, the map remains a powerful reminder of the role cartography played in projecting power, desire, and identity during the age of empires.
