I bet he was using (now deprecated) SMS feature and they snooped on the other users texts (outside of signal). Would be pretty surprised if they somehow got into a signal-to-signal chat without physical access to one of their phones

I can only disconnect while using other clients but when I open nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 again, it reconnects to them.

Probably hardcoded to connect so that the client can pull down your initial list of relays from *somewhere* before it has the list cached.
