There is a quote from Nietzsche where he’s talking about Leonardo Da Vinci. He refers to him as someone who has “seen too great a range of good and bad things”.
I am a huge fan of Leonardo and I thoroughly enjoy studying his life and work. I often think that he had the keys to the universe. I always wonder which came first, his great pieces of art or his deep understanding of such a wide range of topics from anatomy to engineering.
I also think about this when my own output is not what I want it to be and how I can get back into a better flow of creativity. I cannot force myself to sit in front of a blank canvas and create something. I have to actually go out into the world and experience new things. My output is determined by my inputs. It’s like I have a supply of inputs that my output draws from and if I am lacking in output, it means I need more inputs. To increase supply of inputs, I need new life experiences.
