All things Bitcoin

I am sad to read this. My wife and I give credit to the FIRE movement (Financial Independence Retire Early) for its emphasis on reducing expenses and eliminating debt.

Without spending a dime to follow a guru we were able to "chunk" pay all our debt and eliminate twenty years of principal and interest payments in two years. It left us with an enviable amount of "disposable" income and because of our new innate, righteous hatred of the banking system led us straight into the arms of Bitcoin.

Mr. Mustache dismisses Bitcoin as having no intrinsic value, using his clipped fingernails as an equivalency. His distaste for Bitcoin is palpable. Bitcoin is anti-fragile and will face greater foes than Mr Mustache and his premise that we who believe in, buy, and hold Bitcoin are merely participating in a speculative game trying to someday sell off to a greater fool. I think sometimes influencers can be well intentioned but totally wrong.

I love hitting the follow all button in iris.io and snort.social

(both are desktop clients that I run on Android using the Kiwi Browser and the nos2x extension)

(And I thought it was just us older folks who are grumpy.)

Tips for Relays.

Forget about having a thousand and one relays.

The first option is to pay for nostr.wine, it allows you to use the filter.nostr.wine filter. The filter works both requesting events from other relays and sending events to other relays. In case you want to send events to other relays you have to add the relay with the following syntax:

wss://filter.nostr.wine/REPLACE_WITH_YOUR_NPUB?broadcast=true

Reading list:

wss://relay.damus.io

wss://nos.lol

wss://relay.current.fyi

wss://brb.io

wss://nostr.oxtr.dev

wss://relay.nostr.bg

wss://no.str.cr

wss://nostr.mom

wss://nostr.zebedee.cloud

wss://relay.plebstr.com

wss://offchain.pub

Writing list:

wss://relay.damus.io

wss://nos.lol

wss://relay.snort.social

wss://nostr.oxtr.dev

wss://relay.nostr.bg

wss://nostr.fmt.wiz.biz

wss://nostr.mom

wss://nostr.zebedee.cloud

wss://no.str.cr

wss://relay.plebstr.com

wss://offchain.pub

The next special relay is relay.nostr.band. This relay reads events from all relays and applies a spam filter, in the case of writing you only write to relay.nostr.band but it is a good complement to add content to relay filter.nostr.wine as it only requests events from your contacts and your contacts' contacts. It is not clear to me from which relay is requesting the events as the code is not available.

And finally the relay nostr.mutinywallet.com. This relay uses blastr which is a nostr cloudfare worker proxy that publishes to all known relays. Basically what it does is to read the list of online relays from nostr.watch and all events are queued to be executed in batches by another worker that rotates every 30s if there is an event queued, or once a certain amount of events are queued. In this case the relay is write-only.

In short, your relays could be reduced to 4:

wss://nostr.wine

wss://filter.nostr.wine/REPLACE_WITH_YOUR_NPUB?broadcast=true

wss://relay.nostr.band

wss://nostr.mutinywallet.com

With them you save bandwidth and battery, actually filter.nostr.wine in write mode and nostr.mutinywallet are redundant, but I put the two because nostr.mutinywallet.com has more amplitude because it publishes in all the online relays of nostr.watch and also because it has high availability in case of failure of any of the two relays mentioned above.

The same case is applicable in the case of reading for filter.nostr.wine and relay.nostr.band.

I'm really happy with nostr.wine and its filter in the mix. Check out this note for a 4 relay combo that saves on data:

Hi, Dallas. Saw your npub over on Twitter and know it's a little weird getting started. Two quick suggestions: 1. Get Wallet of Satoshi app and use their free address in your bio (example picture), You'll be immediately able to be zapped (receive sats) so yes, absolutely ready for customers. And 2. Get comfortable quicker by following the nostr people that big influencers follow. For example, I'm here because BTC Sessions retweeted you, so maybe find and follow him. Then follow the people he follows! You can quickly get up to speed. And nostr is super friendly so be willing to ask questions if you need help. Welcome!

Same problem here. Since I am using Android I've been using the Kiwi Browser with the nos2x extension without incident. Now, by entering my private key and activating the extension I can get the global feed but if I click the "following" button I get this with no further results.

Thanks to #[0] for this link to "In Real Life" examples of Bitcoin being used. (In addition to these examples from around the world, my personal favorite use of Bitcoin is being able to send USD to Philippines PHP instantly, with no remittance fees!)

I just gave a listen to #[2] . The husband-wife duo cover current Bitcoin happenings in a lighthearted and entertaining way. I like!

Just listened to your most recent podcast. Yes, it may help my practical, skeptical wife. Your podcast is well planned, professionally produced, and has great chemistry between you and Mandana. You are both good natured and Mandana reminds me of Gracie Allen, who is quite willing to be confrontational in a loving and entertaining way. (BTW I think it's obvious you two are headed to El Salvador!๐Ÿ™‚)

Not sure. Used the โšก on your post, sent some sats, see no difference. (used my Wallet of Satoshi)

And I agree, even yesterday while driving with my wife who is not a Bitcoiner (yet), I tried to passionately convince her that at my passing she not sell our saved Bitcoin. It would be truly awesome should our children's children be given the fruit of our sacrifice.

Cool looking cutting board!

Mass BTC adoption in 60 years?! My visceral reaction was, "yikes, I'll be long gone!" But if you take a moment to read this article I bet you'll appreciate Mr. Svetsky's premise of three generations to adoption. It was fun to watch him experience Bitcoin through the eyes of our children born in 2009 and to know there's only five more years until the second generation of adoption begins. Give it a read!

#[0] shared how if you create single photo links in nostrgram.co and then skip a line and make a new link you can create your own little (or long!) Gallery post.

Here's my example: (Costco shopping list) ๐Ÿ˜

Down, and dirty, and quick, nostrgram.co has a video button. I'm thinking you may be looking for something more sophisticated but for some it might get the job done.๐Ÿ™‚

I don't think so. If you go to nostr.wine they have a read me page that explains how they aggregate a bunch of public relays. I really enjoy using their relay.

Sometimes I am hesitant to try an audio link because I get frustrated with all the banter and wandering off-topic. But I was intrigued by the concept of Bitcoin as an energy wall. This is fairly short, but more importantly it goes directly into how Bitcoin enhances anything it's used with (like nostr) and the the defensive nature of its designed "energy wall" that will protect it as fiat controllers continue attempting to defeat it.

A great listen and very worthwhile.

My daughter started one of her songs with the line, "the milk is sour". The song has been heard around the world millions of times. Seeing and being different may not require punishment, maybe you're onto something!

A dab of peanut butter is delish. And, you may have to collateralize your Bitcoin, add an egg. Yumz.
