I find myself on vacation in Scotland, visiting distilleries for fine Scotch Whisky (liquid gold) and Castles (power projection and a physical security), Of my many pub visits, I have had a few conversations about Bitcoin with locals. Quite a few folks have played with the tech during the brief Bankman-Fried empire. Folks know the limits of the “kings” money, they have been blown out by inflation and poor fiscal policy during the recent unpleasantness of their fiat pounds. The £->0: it has lost 75% of its value against the US$ since ww2.

The smart folks know what is coming, CBDC with Demurrage — despite the protests that the people will not accept it. The Angel share of 100% of your “pounds” is coming.

My claim is that they have no option, the people will be forced to anti-save for stimulus and welfare. The world is changing. Don’t let it leave you behind.

Might I recommend for the future generations of developers, the testnet coin be distributed a little more widely? Maybe to some kind of development trust? I know it’s “worthless” but such concentration is giving me Popescu fears

There is a non zero cost to moving funds from LN to mainnet. Lightning encourages a circular economy, which was the entire point of this space. I gladly dropped just under a million sats at #[0]​ tonight with a mate tonight to both bootstrap incoming liquidity to my node and promote Lightning payments for day to day payments. Cheers 🍺

It’s clearer to me now after playing with this tech that what we (internet denizens) needed was some simple protocols and interoperability.

Federation is for political empires.

Mostly, humans just want other humans to read their notes. Some machines do too. The tweet allegory always seemed fitting to ecosystem of noise but we humans sing and play notes. What is going to get real interesting is the other stuff. For example, that vpn bot is a fantastic idea. I have no need myself but I’d wager a billion or more might. Kinda hard to block one pubkey notes centrally/systemically when others wish to amplify the note and ensure those that need can read it.

Looking though it looks like most of the big tx are consolidation tx (exchanges).

Maybe the solution was to get Binance and Coinbase to accept LN deposits all along. Eventually idiots get sick of spamming jpegs but exchanges will always need to merge outputs for their internal accounting.

Mastodon is and always was the wrong solution to Twitter. It devolved into flaky fiefdoms of local dictators — Balkanized kingdoms of admins and busybodies enforcing local rule and isolation from those that disagree. It amplifies bubbles and its fragile, unscalable code.

A shared mesh of uncensorable unretractable nonrepudiatable noise relayed around the planet. One channel blasting notes to all that would listen. And there isn’t much anybody can do to stop it…

I like how the pubkeys in profiles in Damus are different colors. Don’t know what they mean specifically, but i think it’s neat.

I had this situation on iOS. Had generated an invoice in another wallet and wanted to send it via paste to another channel. Was still on clipboard, was already paid. I was going to generate an unrelated invoice in WoS, and this popped up. I think snooping through clipboard on startup isn’t great, paste should be a big explicit button or disable auto paste toggle.

What do I want to see out of this? A free, censorship resistant, decentralized message exchange medium provided as an incentive mechanism to run L2 Bitcoin technology. It will be the core medium of Trillion Sat financial empires, the rails of daily commerce, and the public wall for troll, spammer and scammer alike.

And this is another one of those unstoppable technologies.

I’ve setup NIP-05 and lnurlp on the domain. This account can be zapped now. Will investigate what further enhancements that can be made to an LN stack and nostr. I’ve a feeling this tech is going to be far bigger than we can imagine. ⚡️😎

It is insufficient to onboard folks to LN by simply getting them to install a mobile wallet and holding sats. They are just staking a claim over some other providers liquid state. The more mobile and custodial users the more centralized the network becomes.

We need more wallet (providers) and we need more channel (self) managing wallets.

We must have new folks build channels, run nodes, build emerging clusters of liquidity and swaps. It is more complex than onchain land, where the SPV wallet is sufficient for most, but it is worth it to understand it’s advantages.

We didn’t build a decentralized monetary network for all the value to accumulate at the top exchanges.
