Ex: Rotary dial phones, you would get one and didn’t have to change it for long years. They would also cost under 5% of current smart phones. New devices depreciate in battery, technology and etc.
Similarly with household goods such as refrigerators etc, they used to have copper wires wrapped around their motors. Nowadays aluminum wiring is used and it’s life cycle is much lower. So you need to change your household goods which are under the category of ‘durable’ goods much more frequently.

Fiat and depreciation of purchasing power led to this. Similar in Turkey. Rent is ridiculous, life is expensive, minimum wage is around $420 (a minimum wage earner can only buy 43 Big Macs a month in McDonalds Turkey) and 40+% earn minimum wage.
People are not incentivized to work to build up their lives. They are incentivized to waste time.
