Jail breaking is possible, but
- it violates Apple’s EULA
- it involves patching the iOS kernel, which may have security implications
- it usually means you can’t update your phone until someone jailbreaks the next version of iOS (which again has security implications)
The rule doesn’t apply to purchases of physical goods. Amazon won’t allow users to purchase digital goods (e.g. Kindle books, movies) through the iOS app.
Tell me about it. I retired my ancient MacBook Pro with a Linux laptop because of Apple’s plans to spy on its customers to detect CSAM, and the change definitely has drawbacks. Then Apple finally changed their minds, and I bought a new iPad. Now this.
I can’t see the notes you’re responding to, but the Chinese Communist government banned Damus from the Chinese App Store shortly after it was released. That’s possibly the reason for the comparison. I agree with your analysis, though: Apple is concerned about getting its cut from iOS apps. Fortunately, those of us who aren’t stuck under communism have other choices for connecting to Nostr.
From sponsoring “fact checkers” used by social media companies, to lobbying those same companies to silence dissenters, to FOSTA, to cutting off Wikileaks and other disfavored organizations from payment processors, to regulating broadcast media content, to regulating what you can and can’t say in a job interview, the US government does indeed censor people.
Meh, this wouldn’t work, because even if Damus had its own Lightning wallet you could still receive sats from anywhere, and send sats to anywhere outside of Damus.
Uh, #[2] ? #[3] ? Did you get one of these?

Apple’s ruling was about the App Store version (1.4.3). Zap splits aren’t in that.
It says apps are allowed to facilitate tipping with currencies that were bought through Apple’s in-app purchase mechanism. If Damus deleted external wallet integrations and allowed users to buy sats only through in-app purchases, I guess Apple would relent.
No tattoos. The ultimate non-conformity for an SG.
I don’t remember seeing that set.
I have set a content warning using nostr:npub1sn0rtcjcf543gj4wsg7fa59s700d5ztys5ctj0g69g2x6802npjqhjjtws for this post. Please let me know which clients show the warning and which do not.

Damus (App Store version) does not.
“[T]hose stupid kids” is not my opinion.

Just don't stare too much...
