We will have to agree to disagree then. I think logical consistency is the whole point of mathematics. If your system allows you to prove that A is not A then you can literally prove anything
That video is not really about this topic but it covers some of the history and is interesting non the less. Wikipedia has a page about it https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actual_infinity
I would argue the Banach-Tarski Paradox proves that actual infinity cannot exist even as a logical or mathematical construct
It is not possible to have a logically consistent system where such a thing is possible. This was a big topic of debate in mathematics in the late 1800s when NonEuclidean geometries prompted mathematicians to examine the foundation mathematical more closely. They discovered that the concept of a limit was poorly defined. Unfortunately set theory won out https://youtu.be/HeQX2HjkcNo

Infinite *series
There is no logical proof that an infinite set can be well defined except by circular reasoning. It’s an approximation at best
If you search his podcast “Patterson in Pursuit” for “infinit” there are several episodes where he goes into more depth including interviews with mathematicians who are unable to make a coherent argument about how infinite sets can exist
Steve Patterson explains it beautifully
Also in article form
There is a lot wrong with the concept of a “completed infinity” though. Infinity is fine as a concept for something that has no bounds but when you start doing things like saying you can calculate the sum of an infinite series that’s where it falls apart. A thing cannot be “itself and more” that violates the law of identity. That’s why there are so many paradoxes when you start working with infinity. Contradictions in science are a sign one of your assumptions is wrong. I realize that the implications of this are widespread and I’m not in a position to try to fix the last 100 years of mathematics. But that’s the cool thing about logic. I know a fact when I see one.
The fine-structure constant is the seed number for this universe
I’d recommend using this fork. Works much more reliably and is kept current. https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp
Thanks, I’ll check that one out
Good afternoon, today’s #OpenSourceDaily project is https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl youtube-dl is a command line utility written in Python under The Unlicense that can download videos from YouTube and other sites. It works surprisingly well and does not require a YouTube API key to use. You can also use the -x option to rip the audio after a video downloads. This one is interesting because it is one of the only projects I’m aware of to be censored from GitHub. Microsoft failed to keep it censored when thousands of users uploaded forks of the code. The fact that it has 118k stars suggests that they have stopped trying to censor it.
This note is a reminder that infinite things do not exist. Programmers inherently know this already. Math and physics have some soul searching to do…

Good morning, today’s #OpenSourceDaily project is https://github.com/facebook/react React is a framework written in JavaScript under the MIT license for building user interfaces. It changed the game for front end development when it was released since many web developers were still using ajax or “vanilla” JavaScript at the time. Some of your favorite websites are probably built with React or one of its derivatives. It introduces a new syntax called jsx which allows developers to create reactive reuse-able components. These components can be nested and properties can be passed down the tree creating a cleaner development experience. It also improves performance since only components that change need to be re rendered.
Can somebody verify this is the real NVK?
We’re all human, even if you are happy it’s hard not to be a little hard on yourself when somebody else finds a more elegant solution.
Having a wife and kids limits what you can get away with 😂
There’s no excuse for spending beyond your means yet it still feels bad when you consistently increase your revenue and you can’t afford anything more than you could 10 years ago
Right? I’m running out of chairs to sell
The “DMT aliens/beings” are actually archons which are actually a part of us that keeps our soul tethered to our bodies
We definitely need to keep an eye on whatever google is doing but I still don’t see what the attack vector is here
Why is quic bad? It’s also open source and supposed to be fast
