I think one thing that helped me get "unstuck" was doing an assessment at my church of my spiritual gifts (they have these online also).
Once I knew that my gifts were centered around discipleship and kids, I found my purpose in middle school ministry.
Often times, our best selves come after a time of struggle and self doubt.. I hope you and your husband find your peace and calling.
20 years from now, the only people who will remember that you worked late are your kids.
Our kids need our presence not our presents.

I love the idea. Is the assumption that people will not take the time to do it themselves and/or maybe aren't good at it?

Two of my favorite ways to ensure my employees (and others) know I care about them:
1. MMFI -I have this on a small post it note on my laptop. It stands for Make Me Feel Important. That could be a vendor, customer, or an employee. It's just a small, simple reminder to me to encourage others.
2. Two handwritten notes a month to random associates letting them know what they mean to me and the company and how they are making a positive impact on our business.
Nothing really new, but what I can't wrap my head around is why many of my friends will say how much they distrust our government (politics), while at the same time, they dont seem to have the understanding or be wiilling to push back of the current financial system (the fed).
